Deal with the Devil-1

+26th

Once Lora and Kaia departed, Queen Tonya’s calm facade crumbled. She dismissed her entourage

with a curt wave of her hand, watching them leave the room before she allowed her anger to

surface. The tea set on the table rattled as she slammed her hand down in fury.

“How dare they,” she muttered, pacing the room. “Everything was perfect until that wretched Kaia

came along.”

Her thoughts spiraled as she considered the string of events that had led to this point. Since Markus had brought Kaia into the castle as his chosen mate, things had steadily gone downhill. Tonya had always envisioned a different future for her son, one where he was married to someone of her choosing, someone more… controllable.

Councilman Stone’s incessant pressure and blackmail only added to her stress. His daughter, Angelika, was supposed to be the new queen. The councilman kept on reminding her how he orchestrated the attack on the Stormheart Pack and kept on pressing her. But despite all her efforts, Kaia remained resilient, and now, she had the added support of Lora and Azriel Storm.

Tonya’s frustration peaked as she thought about the Storm couple. They had arrived like heroes, putting an end to the pandemic and earning the admiration of everyone. It had taken her years to build her influence, and now, these newcomers threatened to undermine everything she had

worked for.

She grabbed a delicate porcelain vase from a nearby table and hurled it across the room. It shattered against the wall, the pieces scattering across the floor like her plans. Her breath came in angry gasps as she tried to regain control.

She knew she had to take more severe actions: Kaia had to go.

Taking a long, steadying breath, Tonya walked over to an ornate writing desk and unlocked a hidden compartment. Inside was a black, unmarked phone. She picked it up, her hands trembling slightly, and dialed a number from memory that she hoped that would never have to use. The phone rang once before it was answered, but the person on the other end remained silent.

“I have a job for you,” Tonya said, her voice wavering despite her attempt to sound authoritative.

There was no response, only a faint, ominous hum.

“Arrange for … Kaia to be gone,” she continued, the words nearly choking her.

A pause followed, filled with a tension that made Tonya’s heart pound in her chest. Then the voice on the other end spoke, its tone chillingly calm. “You know the price.”

Tonya closed her eyes, steeling herself. Her voice trembled as she replied, “I accept.”

“Good,” the voice responded. “Be ready in three days. I will send you instructions.”

The call ended with a click, leaving Tonya in a silence that felt heavier than before. She slowly placed the phone back in its compartment and locked it away. Her hands started to tremble uncontrollably as the gravity of what she had just done settled over her. Tears welled up in her eyes, blurring her vision.

She collapsed into a nearby chair, burying her face in her hands. The guilt and fear were almost too much to bear. She had no choice, she told herself. This was the only way to protect her family’s future and maintain her own position of power.

As dinner time approached, Queen Tonya took a deep breath and composed herself, arranging her dress and smoothing her hair before stepping out of her chambers. She walked with her usual regal grace down the long, elegantly decorated corridors of the castle, her face a mask of serene composure. Inside, however, a storm of anger and resentment brewed.

Upon entering the grand dining hall, she was greeted by the sight of her mate, Anto, already seated at the head of the table, chatting amicably with their son, Markus. Azriel and Lora, the infamous Storm couple, were also present, their presence a stark reminder of the recent events that had upset her carefully constructed world.

“Good evening, everyone,” Tonya said with a warm, practiced smile as she took her seat. “I trust your day has been pleasant?”

Markus looked up and smiled at his mother. “Good evening, Mother. Yes, it has been quite eventful,

but productive.”
