Girls Talk 11-2

But what was more concerning was the realization that Queen Tonya did not approve of Kaia as

her son’s mate. Despite her best efforts to be perfect, Kaia felt that the Queen was intentionally trying to make things worse for her while playing the role of a loving, concerned mother in front of Markus and her mate, Anto. “Damn hypocrite,” Sierra whispered from the depths of Kaia’s mind, a

sentiment Kaia couldn’t help but agree with.

She had tried to bring her concerns to Markus, but he had dismissed them, saying, “Mother is harmless. Yes, maybe a bit traditional, but there’s nothing to worry about. And now that we are

marked and mated, there is nothing she can do, even if she approves it or not.”

Kaia wasn’t so sure. She could sense the Queen’s manipulative tactics, her subtle attempts to

undermine Kaia’s position and confidence. What worried her even more were her premonitions. Though she had yet to gain control over how and when they occurred, one of her latest visions haunted her incessantly. In the vision, she saw Queen Tonya, in a green dress covered in blood,

standing in front of her with a dagger, poised to strike.

This image replayed in Kaia’s mind, amplifying her anxiety. Each time she saw Queen Tonya’s perfect façade, the vision would flash before her eyes, making it difficult to focus on anything else. Sierra, too, was on edge, her instincts screaming that danger lurked around every corner.

Kaia confessed everything to Lora, her voice trembling with the weight of her revelations. As Lora listened, her eyes widened in horror, and she put her hands to her mouth. “Oh, Kaia,” she whispered, before pulling her into a tight hug. “I am so sorry to hear all this.”

Kaia took a deep breath, steadying herself as she pulled back from the embrace. “I haven’t told Markus about my premonition,” she admitted. “How can I tell him that his mother wants me dead and that there is a strong probability that she might attack me in the future?”

Lora’s expression softened with concern. “What are you going to do, then?”

Kaia straightened her shoulders, determination hardening her gaze. “If there’s something I’ve

learned during my time in the castle, it’s that image is everything. I’ve been trying to gradually reveal the queen’s true face, especially in public, to make her slip up and reveal her true intentions to everyone, particularly Markus and his father.”

“Oh, Kaia,” Lora said, shaking her head, “I never imagined this. I’m so sorry.”

Despite everything, Kaia managed a small smile. “I’m okay. Better than ever, actually, because Markus is my rock. He supports me in every way.”

Lora’s eyes twinkled with a teasing light. “So, how is your relationship with Markus?”

Kaia’s smile widened into a playful grin. “Let’s just say that he’s … insatiable.”

Both women laughed, the tension easing as they switched to lighter topics. Kaia felt a surge of gratitude for Lora’s presence and support.

“Please don’t share my struggles with anyone,” Kaia requested, her voice turning serious again.

“Never,” Lora assured her. “And if you need help putting this witch Tonya in her place, I’m at your disposal.”

Just then, there was a knock on the door. A maid appeared, holding an invitation in her hand. Kaia took it and opened it, revealing a summons for both her and Lora to have tea with Queen Tonya and her entourage.

Kaia frowned. “You don’t have to go, an excuse could be found,” she told Lora.

Lora winked. “No, this is the perfect opportunity to meet her. You are not alone in this.”

Kaia’s frown softened into a smile. “Thank you, Lora.”

They both stood, preparing to face the next challenge together. As they made their way to Queen Tonya’s quarters, Kaia felt a mixture of dread and determination, while Lora smiled with a

mysterious glint in her eyes. No one should mess with her sister-in-law!
