Azriel held her tighter. “You handled it with grace. And you should be proud of that. And about Kaia, she has Markus next to her, plus that she is a Storm. She is much stronger than everyone gives her
credit for.”
Lora took a deep breath, trying to center herself. “I couldn’t shake the feeling that Queen Tonyals questions were more than just curiosity. She is always so cold and intense?” she said, voicing the unease that had been gnawing at her.
Azriel nodded. “I felt it too. She was always like this, but there’s something about her that doesnt sit right with me… I can’t explain it, but I can feel it with my instincts.”
After changing into more comfortable clothes, they climbed into bed. Lora rested her head on Azriel’s chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. “Azriel,” she began tentatively, “do you think we’ll ever find peace?”
Azriel stroked her hair gently. “I believe we will. It might not come easily or quickly, but we’ll achieve it. We have no other choice, we owe it to our children, to all the future generations.”
His words, full of conviction and love, soothed her racing thoughts. She closed her eyes, allowing the fatigue to take over. As she drifted off to sleep, Azriel continued to hold her, his protective
instincts ever vigilant.
The following morning, sunlight filtered through the heavy drapes, casting a warm glow over the room. Lora stirred, feeling a sense of clarity and determination. Today, they would discuss their next steps with Markus and Kaia, and begin to unravel the mysteries surrounding them.
Azriel woke up shortly after her, his eyes softening as he saw her awake. “Ready to face the day?” he asked, brushing a strand of hair from her face.
Lora nodded. “Yes, let’s get to the bottom of this and plan the next steps.”
They dressed quickly, and after a light breakfast in their room, made their way to the Council chambers where Markus and Kaia awaited them. The royal couple greeted them warmly, but the
underlying tension was palpable.
“We have a lot to discuss,” Markus said, his tone serious. “Lora, I will leave in Kaia’s care while we
discuss with the Council.”
Lora squeezed Azriel’s hand, seeking reassurance. He kissed her forehead gently and whispered, “I’ll be fine, love. Don’t worry.” She nodded, watching as he disappeared into the room with Markus.
Alone with Kaia, Lora felt a mix of anticipation and unease. Kaia took her hand and said, “Let’s go

to my private chambers where we can have some privacy.” Lora smiled and followed her through
the castle’s labyrinthine corridors.
As they walked, Lora tried to make small talk, but Kaia gave her a tense smile and whispered,
“Later, the walls have ears.” Lora nodded, understanding the gravity of their situation. They
continued in silence until they reached a series of apartments and rooms.
Once inside Kaia’s private chambers, Kaia let out a long breath and smiled widely before suddenly hugging Lora. “I am so happy to see you here! How are you? How is Azriel? How is your
pregnancy?”
Lora returned the hug warmly and then briefed Kaia on everything that had happened, including their visit to her old pack. She shared the details of the attack, the revelations, and her mother’s tragic death.
At the end of her story, Kaia shook her head in disbelief. “Wow, I can’t believe the nerve of your former mate! What a scumbag. I’m so sorry about your mother. Despite everything, it must still
feel…” Kaia trailed off, her eyes filled with empathy.
Lora nodded, feeling a lump in her throat. “I’m still confused about everything,” she admitted.
Kaia squeezed her hands. “Everything will be okay,” she said with a reassuring smile.
“Do you hope, or do you know?” Elora asked, curious.
Kaia smiled mysteriously. “A bit of both,” she replied.
Lora relaxed a bit and then asked, “How is your life as the new queen? How is Markus?”
Kaia took a long breath before responding. “Where do I even start?”
