Lora stirred from her sleep, her eyelids fluttering open. The room around her seemed to spin, and she had to steady herself as she tried to sit up. Despite several hours of rest, she felt even more exhausted than before. Her night had been plagued by bad memories. Every time she drifted off, nightmares pulled her back into a past she thought she had left behind. Poor Azriel had spent the night waking her with kind words, trying to calm her, but the flashes of her past tormented her

relentlessly.

It had been a long time since she’d experienced nightmares like these. In the beginning, when she moved in with Mary, they had been constant, unwelcome companions. But over time, as she learned to make peace with her past and pretend it had never happened, they had decreased. Now, lying in bed, she realized that she had never truly healed those wounds. She had merely

hidden them away.

Determined not to dwell on it, she tried to get up, but a strange smell caught her nose. She wrinkled it in distaste. “What on earth is that?” she muttered. It smelled faintly familiar, yet out of

place.

Her wolf, Tara, sniffed the air and confirmed her suspicions. “It smells like… Alex?”

Elora shook her head, squeezing her nose shut. “That’s not possible. Unless he used this room

before we arrived.”

Tara, still suspicious, said, “Hmm… I don’t know. The smell is quite potent.”

“I hate it,” Lora replied, getting down from her bed and opening the window wide, leaving the fresh

air to come.

Their exchange was interrupted by the door opening. Azriel entered the room, his presence a

comforting force. He approached her with a smile, kissing her gently. “How are you feeling, with

the nightmares and the nausea?”

Elora nodded, but Azriel, sensing her weakness through their bond, wrapped his arms around her,

holding her tightly. “We’ll get through this,” he whispered, kissing her again.

After a few moments, he asked if she felt up to going downstairs for breakfast. Despite her desire to climb back into bed, Elora decided it was time to face everyone. “I’m not going to hide in our

room,” she declared. “Damn them all.”

Azriel laughed in delight. “That’s my Luna.”

Once dressed, Elora made her way downstairs, feeling the weight of everyone’s stares upon her, from high ranking families to omegas. She ignored them, focusing on her group. “Good morning,”

she said, addressing everyone as she took a plate with some buttered croissants.

An awkward silence followed until Luna Claire broke it. “Do you need anything, Elora?”

Elora looked at her with a blank expression. “I’m fine.”

Luna Claire tried again, but Elora cut her off. “I’m here to support my mate and this mission, but

once we’re done, my intention is to never cross paths with any of you again. So, let’s stop trying to

play pretend in front of each other. I won’t be a hypocrite and pretend I don’t remember my past. I

remember every single moment and what this pack and its members did to me.”

The room fell into a heavy silence, the weight of her words hanging in the air. Lora’s gaze was

steady and unwavering, her resolve clear. She had faced her past and survived, and she wouldn’t let anyone diminish her strength or resolve. As she took a bite of her croissant, she felt a sense of

empowerment.

Lora’s outburst left everyone from the Black Forest Pack in stunned silence. The Elora they

remembered was shy, quiet, and slightly awkward socially. But the young woman standing before them now exuded strength, confidence, and a powerful aura that left everyone in awe, whispering

among themselves about the drastic change.

After breakfast, following their usual routine of disguises, Azriel and Elora healed another dozen infected pack members. Despite their efforts and successes, Elora felt overwhelmingly exhausted, her energy drained more quickly than on previous days. Azriel, concerned for her well-being,

decided they needed to return to their room.

Once there, he looked at her with worry etched on his face. “Are you sure you’re okay?” he asked,

his voice gentle but firm.

Elora nodded, though her eyes betrayed her fatigue. “I’m okay, I just need a power nap and some

kisses,” she assured him, her voice soft as she lay her head on his lap. The comfort of his presence

and the gentle stroke of his hand on her hair helped her relax. Within moments, she was asleep, her

breathing evening out.
