A Heart Laid Bare-1

Dana’s heart felt like it had been slashed open as she saw Tim fall to the ground. Her instincts took over, and she barely succeeded in reaching him in time to crush the heart of the rogue that dared injure her mate. The fight was vicious, and despite their group’s superior strength and skill, they were overwhelmed by the sheer number of rogues. For each team member, there were at least ten to fifteen rogues, and they kept on coming. Dana’s suspicion grew; this attack was too well-planned, the location, the lack of signal, it all pointed to someone directing these rogues.

Once the battle subsided, they retreated to a nearby cabin. They quickly formed a security perimeter while the injured were dragged inside. The main issue was that Lora, the Goddess Gift was exhausted from healing the infected earlier. The bad news was that the wounds inflicted by the rogues were life-threatening, their claws laced with wolfsbane, so their wolves were unable to

heal them.

Dana was surprised to learn that the Goddess Gift was Luna Lora. Despite her short stature, Lora commanded respect, and Dana could easily understand why she was mated to someone like the

feared Alpha Azriel.

While guarding the perimeter around the cabin, Dana struggled to maintain her composure, but a wave of panic threatened to overwhelm her. Tim was severely injured, and his condition was deteriorating. She was torn between going to him and maintaining her distance. Her duty called for her to protect the Goddess Gift, but her heart ached for Tim, despite all her efforts to push him

aside.

Just then, Luna Lora exited the cabin, stumbling a few steps before vomiting violently. Dana rushed to her side, supporting her and offering her some water. “Are you okay? Are you injured?” Dana asked, her voice filled with concern. Her first priority was to protect the Goddess Gift, and

now something seemed wrong with her.

Luna Lora smiled weakly, sitting down on a wooden log. “I’ll be fine, eventually,” she replied.

Dana pressed further, “Do you need anything? Anything at all? You look sick and pale.”

Lora just smiled faintly. “I’m okay, considering my condition.”

“Condition?” Dana asked, confused.

Lora nodded and gently caressed her stomach. It took a moment for Dana to understand, but then

it hit her; Luna Lora was pregnant. She stood there, speechless, her mind racing.

Before she got the chance to say something more, Lora spoke to her, her voice soft and filled with

concern. “Dana, do you plan to reject Tim?” she asked gently.

Dana looked at the ground, conflicted and unable to meet Lora’s eyes. Silence hung heavy between

them.

Luna Lora sighed. “Rejecting someone is the worst thing that can happen in a lifetime to a

werewolf,” she said, her tone filled with empathy.

Dana couldn’t erase her guilt as she replied without realizing, “Even if the rejection is for someone’s

well-being?”

Lora’s curiosity was piqued. She studied Dana’s face before speaking again. “Whatever your reasons are, you should let Tim decide as well. You’re not being fair by making a decision for both

of you.”

Their conversation was abruptly interrupted by a frantic Azriel, who burst out of the cabin. “Lóra,

it’s Tim,” he called out, his voice laced with urgency.

Lora’s face drained of color. She rushed inside the cabin, with Dana following close behind her. The sight that met Dana’s eyes made her breath catch in her throat.

Tim lay on a makeshift bed, his skin ashen and darkened. He was convulsing in pain, his body wracked with violent spasms. Lora was desperately trying to heal him, supported by Azriel. Tears streamed down Lora’s face, her eyes filled with despair.

“We’re losing him, Azriel. I can’t… he’s too far gone,” Lora cried, her voice breaking.

For Dana, it felt like someone had stolen her breath. She was unable to breathe, her heart pounding

in her chest. Without thinking, she rushed to Tim’s side, grabbing his hand as tears flowed freely

down her cheeks.

“Wake up, Tim. Please wake up. Fight it, damn it! Fight! Don’t give up!” she begged, her voice

trembling with desperation.

Everyone in the room froze, even the other vampire warriors who had always seen Dana as the

epitome of strength. To see her begging like this, consumed by desperation, left them perplexed

and deeply moved.
