“I love you too, Markus, and it is OK. I understand that this happened at a critical moment, but everything will be OK.” she replied, her hand resting on his chest.

With that, they drifted off to sleep, ready to face whatever challenges awaited them, knowing they had each other to rely on.

On the other side of the castle, Queen Tonya seethed with anger and frustration. Her rage had spilled over, and she had lashed out at her trusted spies, berating them for not being up to date on

Markus’s decision and marking. She deemed them all useless idiots before storming off towards

her chambers.

As she made her way through the dimly lit corridors, she was intercepted by Councilor Stone.

“Queen Tonya, can we have a word… in private?” he asked, his tone cold and demanding.

Tonya gritted her teeth in irritation but followed him into a secluded room. Once alone, Councilor

Stone’s demeanor shifted from formal to furious. “How is it possible for Markus to be mated

already? This role was supposed to be for my daughter, Angelika! You guaranteed that this would

happen,” he spat.

Tonya clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms. “It came as a surprise, but I will fix the

issue,” she replied, her voice trembling with suppressed fury.

Councillor Stone glared at her, his eyes filled with contempt. “You better be. Our deal was that one

of my daughters would become the future queen.”

“I know what I promised!” Tonya snapped, her patience wearing thin.

Their argument escalated, the tension in the room palpable. “I don’t need to remind you of the support I gave you many years ago with the Stormheart pack,” Stone said, his voice low and menacing.

Tonya’s eyes widened in panic. She looked around to make sure no one was listening. “Lower your

voice,” she hissed. “That secret cannot come out.”

Stone’s lips curled into a cruel smile. “It won’t stay a secret if I decide to share with the world that

you were behind the attack on the Stormheart pack.”

Tonya paled, her heart pounding in her chest. She had no choice but to comply. “Keep your mouth shut, and my guarantee still stands, I will ensure your daughter becomes queen,” she said, her voice barely a whisper.

“It better be the truth, for your sake,” Stone replied, his eyes narrowing before he turned and left the

Tonya’s hands shook in anger and fear. That damn weasel was blackmailing her, and there was

nothing she could do about it. He had made sure that in case anything happened to him, the damning proofs would be released to the public. Her heart trembled as she recalled the past and

the mistake she had made years ago when she trusted Councilor Stone with the Stormheart

annihilation.

The memory was vivid, as if it had happened yesterday. Her patience had reached its limit after a royal ball where she had argued with her mate, Anton. She had accused him of still harboring feelings for Luna Storm.

In their youth, everyone knew that Anton and Luna Storm had dated, but once they found their mates, they had broken off their relationship, each following the Goddess’ will and choosing their

fated mates.

Despite this, Tonya could sense the respect and warm feelings Anton still had towards his old flame. She knew he hadn’t cheated on her, she would have felt it through the mate bond, but she

considered them guilty for being so kind to each other. Every time they met, her heart broke a little more, and the ugly green head of jealousy reared each time. They had numerous fights in private,

but each time, Anton denied loving Luna Storm. Tonya knew better and, even though Anton was

hers, she hated that someone else could hold her husband’s attention.

She hated that Alpha Storm was a powerful leader with too much influence. So, in a moment of

desperation and rage, she sought help from Councilor Stone, who employed the services of rogue

mercenaries to decimate the Stormheart pack. What she hadn’t expected was for their son and

daughter to survive. A second attack would have been too suspicious.

Now, years later, the consequences of her actions were catching up with her. She needed to

ensure that Angelika became queen to keep her secrets safe.

As she paced the room, her anger simmering beneath the surface, she vowed to do whatever it

took to protect herself, even if it meant resorting to the darkest of measures.

One thing was for sure: Kaia Storm had to disappear from their lives… permanently.
