A Royal Homecoming-2

The pack erupted into cheers and applause, their joy and excitement filling the room. Kaia felt the

warmth of their acceptance wash over her, bolstering her confidence. As the noise died down,

Markus continued, “At the end of the day, Kaia will be officially accepted into the pack, and her

crowning ceremony will follow in the coming days, so please welcome her and offer her all your

support.”

Kaia was overwhelmed by the events, but she stayed strong, the images from her vision still

playing in her mind. They grounded her, giving her a sense of calm and reassurance that everything

would be okay. She smiled and squeezed Markus’s hand, feeling a newfound determination to

embrace her role as queen.

After the announcement, pack members began to approach them, offering their congratulations

and expressing their happiness. Kaia greeted each of them with warmth, feeling more at ease with

every interaction. She could see the genuine respect and affection in their eyes, which made her

feel truly welcome.

As Kaia received the greetings and congratulations from the pack members, she couldn’t help but

notice the occasional jealous looks cast her way. Some of these looks were even tinged with

outright hate. Angelika’s glare, in particular, was unmistakably hostile. Nearby, her mother-in-law,

Queen Tonya, stood with an icy expression, barely smiling. The tension in the air was palpable.

Once the pack members dispersed, Markus’s parents approached. Ex-King Anton was welcoming,

his warm demeanor a stark contrast to his wife’s frosty attitude. Queen Tonya barely managed a

smile as she turned to her son.

“Markus, do you really think this is appropriate, given the crises that currently threaten the

kingdom? Plus, you didn’t even give us a heads-up for such an important decision,” she asked, her

tone sharp.

Markus frowned, clearly irritated by her remark. “Mother, I am well aware of the gravity of the

situation. But what better hope to give our people than to share the news of my union with Kaia? Regarding the heads-up, this is my life, my choice.”

Queen Tonya opened her mouth to respond, but before she could speak, her husband interrupted. “Enough, Tonya. Markus is right. He is a century old, and we have waited for this moment for so long.”

Turning to Kaia, Anton continued, “We are thrilled to have you, Kaia. Whatever support you need, you will get it.”

Kaia smiled gratefully, appreciating the warmth and support from Anton. After this exchange,

Queen Tonya excused herself and left like a storm, her displeasure evident.

Anton watched her go and then turned back to Markus and Kaia. “Ignore her. She’s always been a drama queen,” he said with a wry smile.

Kaia smiled politely, but inside, Sierra, her wolf, was fuming. *We need to put this bitch in her place, irrespective of her being Markus’s mother, * Siera growled in Kaia’s mind.

*I agree,* Kaia replied, remembering how Queen Tonya had tried to intimidate her and make her feel inadequate during her last visit.

Markus turned to his father. “Father, if you have time, I’d like to speak with you in private. It is

urgent”

Anton nodded. “Of course, son. Let’s go to your private office.”

Markus then turned to Kaia. “I’ll be in my study briefing my father about you know what, and after I

need to address the Council. I’ll see you soon.”

Kaia nodded in understanding. Just then, Atlas stepped forward. “I’ll lead Kaia to your chambers

and introduce her to my mate, Aria.”

Markus winked at Kaia before departing with his father, and Kaia followed Atlas through the

castle’s maze of corridors.

As they walked, Atlas chatted amiably, pointing out various points of interest in the castle. “You’ll

love Aria,” he said. “She’s been looking forward to meeting you.”

Kaia smiled, feeling a bit more at ease. “I’m looking forward to meeting her too.”

They soon arrived at the chambers. Aria, a petite woman with a warm smile, greeted them at the

door. “Welcome, Your Highness,” she said, her eyes sparkling with kindness.

“Thank you,. It is lovely meeting you, and please call me Kaia in private,” Kaia replied, feeling

genuinely welcome.

Aria led them into a cozy sitting room. “I thought we could have some tea and get to know each other better,” she suggested.

Kaia nodded, grateful for the gesture. As they settled down with their tea, Aria began to tell her about the Royal Pack and the various responsibilities she would have as Queen. Despite the overwhelming nature of the information, Kaia felt a sense of calm. Aria’s presence was soothing, and Kaia could see why Markus trusted her to help her adjust.

Meanwhile, in Markus’s study, the atmosphere was tense. Markus wasted no time briefing his father on the current situation. “The infection is spreading faster than we anticipated,” Markus

said, rolling out a map. “More than ten packs are infected, and the vampires have reported thirteen covens affected. We managed to impose quarantines and curfews quickly, but the situation is

dire.”

Anton studied the map, his expression serious. “It seems the spread is not natural. Do you have any suspicions about who might be behind this?”

Markus nodded. “Yes, we believe it’s a deliberate act, possibly orchestrated by the… Dark Lycans.. Their history of dark magic and manipulation makes them prime suspects.”

Anton froze in place, “But this is impossible, son! We made sure that we eradicate them! The Dark Lycans are extinct!”

Markus nodded as he told him about the meeting with the Vampire Prince, the Goddess Gift and

Kaia’s visions.

Anton sighed, rubbing his temples. “This is worse than I thought. We need to act swiftly and decisively.”

Markus agreed. “Our plan is to start with the packs and covens with the lowest number of infections. We’ll work geographically to contain the spread. Lora has agreed to begin with the vampire princess as a test of her healing abilities.”

Anton nodded, his respect for Lora obvious. “A noble approach. We must ensure the safety of

everyone, not just our own.”

“Exactly,” Markus said. “I’ve already alerted all packs with a royal decree to close their borders and allow no visitors. We need to be vigilant and united.”

Anton placed a reassuring hand on Markus’s shoulder. “You’re doing the right thing, son. We’ll get through this together.”

“Also, father, I have one more important request”, Markus said.

“What is it, son?” Anton asked.

“What we discussed should remain in this office only between you and me. Not even my mother should know about it,” Markus said gravely.

Anton looked at him curiously, “But son, the Council should know. There are so many actions to be

taken.”

“And they will know…in time, only what is concerning them. But everything else, our suspicions and the collaboration with the vampires, all of it… should remain a secret for now.” Markus replied.

“I don’t understand why, Markus,” his father pressed.

“Because I believe we have traitors among our ranks,” Makrus replied in a final voice.

“What!” Anton shouted in disbelief.

I hope you enjoy the story and let me know in your comments if you would prefer for my next book to be a werewolf one or a classical romance (type girl meets boy, drama, ups and downs, hot steamy romance?)
