Common Threat-2

Azriel’s voice was gruff with sleep when he answered. “This had better be important, Markus.”

Markus quickly filled in on the situation, and Azriel’s tone turned serious. “Those damn deceiving creatures… Be cautious. And take care of my sister.”

“I will,” Markus promised.

Soon enough, they were boarding the royal helicopter, its blades slicing through the early morning air. The flight was tense, Markus’s mind racing with the implications of the vampire/prince’s unexpected visit. Four hours later, they land close to the meeting point at the border between werewolf and vampire territory.

The landing site was a clearing surrounded by dense forest, the trees standing as silent sentinels to the upcoming meeting. As they disembarked, Markus could see the faint outlines of the vampire delegation waiting just beyond the tree line.

Markus turned to Kaia, his expression stern. “Remember, stay close to me and follow my lead.”

Kaia nodded, her eyes wide with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension, while her heart was beating loud with adrenaline. “I will.”

After they were joined by a large number of his Praetorian guards, together, they walked toward the vampires, the air thick with tension. As they approached, the figures of the vampire delegation became clearer. At the forefront stood a tall, imposing figure with an air of authority, like an ice sculpture. His dark hair and piercing red eyes marked him as Layzal, the Vampire prince. The lethal aura around him was present, which made the werewolf guards become tense with each step.

To their surprise, Layzal approached them by himself, in a elegant walk.

“King Markus,” Layzal greeted, his voice smooth and cold. “Thank you for meeting with me.”

Markus inclined his head. “Prince Layzal. You give us no choice in requesting a meeting. What is it

you want?”

Layzal’s eyes flicked at Kaia, a slight smirk curling his lips. “Hmm, quite a direct approach. I see you brought company. Interesting choice. Very few are so bold as you to bring their mates while meeting with less friendly parties, let’s say. I had no idea that the werewolves finally had a Queen.

Congratulations.”

Markus’s expression didn’t change, but his stance grew more protective, as he released his Alpha aura. “My mate has a right to be here. Now, state your business and stop starring at her.”

Layzal’s gaze lingered on Kaia for a moment longer before he turned his attention back to Markus.

Common Threat-2

“Very well. We have a mutual problem that requires a mutual solution.”

Markus raised an eyebrow. “And what problem might that be?”

“The outbreak,” Layzal replied, his tone serious. “It’s not just affecting werewolves. Vampires are being hit as well. We believe there’s a third party at play, using this disease to weaken both our races.”

Kaia’s eyes widened, and Markus felt a chill run down his spine. A third party manipulating events from the shadows was a dangerous prospect.

Markus eyed Layzal, the vampire prince, with deep distrust. “How do I know you aren’t the ones orchestrating all of this?” he challenged.

Layzal’s expression darkened with annoyance. “Do you believe I would infect my own beloved?”

Markus froze. “How many are infected?”

“We have a few hundred already,” Layzal replied, his tone grim. “But it’s spreading fast, and our healers were not able to find a cure yet.”

“We’ve ordered a quarantine as well,” Markus said.

Layzal nodded. “We’ve done the same.”

“So, what do you want from us?” Markus asked cautiously.

Layzal’s gaze was intense. “My sources tell me you have the cure, that you found the Goddess

Gift.”

Markus tried to keep his reaction neutral, but Layzal pressed on. “Look, we are willing to make concessions in terms of territory, businesses, assets, but we need the cure as well. Name your price.”

Markus felt conflicted. Trusting the vampires was risky, and Lora was the only one with the Goddess Gift. The pandemic was vast, and they hadn’t identified the source. But he also realized that refusing Layzal might push the vampires to desperation, especially with the vampire princess infected. An inevitable clash of forces loomed if he refused, as she was almost sure that the vampires would attack them as a next step. This meeting was not courtesy, it was the last step before an imminent attack. It seemed that they were desperate.
