Miserable-1

The entire day, Azriel and Markus worked tirelessly, strategizing on how to approach the dual threats facing the packs. They coordinated through video conference calls with the other/alphas and council members, meticulously piecing together a plan. By the end of the day, they had a comprehensive strategy in place. They dropped the idea of traveling as they found it more efficient first to focus on communication and damage control.

As the last call ended, Azriel dropped exhausted into his chair while Markus did the same on the

couch in Azriel’s office. Both were physically and mentally drained, but their tense relationships

with their mates weighed heavily on them. Kaia and Lora had stayed at the alpha’s villa all day, not

coming to the pack house at all. Azriel had tried to mind link with Lora a few times, but she /

blocked him each time, adding to his frustration. Marcus wasn’t faring much better, with Kaia

blatantly ignoring him as well.

They sat in silence for a moment before looking at each other. Marcus finally spoke, breaking the

silence. “We are miserable without them, huh?”

Azriel let out a long huff. “Yeah, we are.”

Markus nodded, his eyes thoughtful. “I thought I’d work better without Kaia being next to me,

thinking she’d distract me. But today, I realized the opposite. Despite the gravity of the situation, I

was more distracted because she wasn’t there.”

“I know what you mean,” Azriel replied, his voice heavy with frustration.

Marcus then asked with a smirk, “So, why are you in the dog house?”

Azriel sighed and recounted the entire story about Lora being upset over his declaration that he

didn’t want more kids, at least not in the near future. He explained how she felt betrayed when he

told her he had been holding back during mating to avoid getting her pregnant.

Marcus whistled in amusement. “Do you know how idiotic you sound?”

Azriel frowned. “Why?”

Marcus laughed. “As an alpha, you don’t necessarily need to knot your mate for her to get

pregnant. You missed the anatomy lessons. It’s not just about being careful.”

Azriel frowned like a child who had been scolded. “I tried to be careful.”

Markus shook his head, still amused. “Leaving this aside, Lora is right to be upset. I see your points of concern but this decision should have been discussed with her. It’s her body, after all.”

Azriel huffed, annoyed. “I was just trying to protect her, especially with everything going on. The

outbreak, the vampires… it’s not a safe world right now.”

Markus leaned back, his expression serious. “I get that. But you can’t make these decisions alone. You need to communicate with her. She’s your partner, your mate, your Luna, not just someone you need to protect. She has a right to be involved in these decisions, especially when it concerns her body and her family.”

Azriel sighed, rubbing his temples. “I know, I just… I didn’t want to burden her with more worries.”.

“Sometimes, sharing the burden is what makes it bearable,” Markus said quietly. “Lora’s strong. She can handle it, and she deserves to be part of the decision-making process.”

Azriel nodded slowly, his frustration beginning to melt into a resolve to make things right. “You’re right. I need to talk to her, really talk to her this time without her getting emotional. She is my/

everything.”

Markus smiled. “Good. And while you’re at it, maybe you can give me some tips on how to get Kaia

to stop ignoring me.”

Azriel chuckled, the tension in the room easing slightly. “What did you do to be in the dog house as

well?”

Azriel glanced at Markus, curiosity piqued. “So, what did you do to land yourself in the dog house

as well?”

Markus sighed, hesitating before speaking. “I’ll tell you, but promise you won’t punch me.”

Azriel raised an eyebrow. “That’s bad, huh?”

Markus nodded. “I wanted to leave Kaia behind for her safety. We argued, and in the heat of the moment, my wolf became feral from the adrenaline and fear of losing her… and I marked her.”

Azriel’s eyes widened. “You did what? I thought you did it when I found you… you know.”
