Heartbreak-1

When she opened the door, an attendant was present, who informed her that her ride had arrived and that they would be ready in 15 minutes for her flight, and that he would return for her. She

thanked him and closed the door.

Kaia took a deep breath, her heart heavy with the decision she had made. She looked around the room one last time, her sadness palpable. Sierra, her wolf, spoke to her in a determined tone.

“You still have me no matter what.”

“We have each other,” Kaia replied. “We will not hide anymore, but at the same time, we will not stay where we are not needed. I truly believed that Markus could be the one for us, after all the heartbreak from the past, but it seems that he was just a beautiful dream.”

Sierra agreed, adding, “I can feel that Markus and Stinger want us, but-”

Kaia interrupted, “They have duties as well, which are beyond personal want. It seems that we forgot

he is the freaking king.”

Their exchange was interrupted by a knock on the door.

“It seems that the attendant returned,” Kaia stood up, grabbed her bag, and made her way towards the door, but when she opened it, she came face to face with a sweaty Markus, panting heavily as

if he had run a marathon.

She looked at him with big eyes, totally surprised by his presence.

“Hello,” she greeted him, but the next words got stuck in her throat when she noticed his

expression. He looked at her and at her luggage in disbelief.

“Are you leaving? What is the meaning of this?” he asked directly.

Kaia took a deep breath and decided to hold her ground. “Yes, I believe that I overstayed my visit, so it is time to return home to Stormheart Pack.”

Markus looked at her conflicted and slightly hurt by her cold tone. He was in a meeting when he heard from his Beta, Atlas, that a Stormheart helicopter had arrived to take Kaia back to her pack. A wave of panic hit him as he left the meeting at that moment and rushed towards her room, his mind spinning in disbelief. She couldn’t leave!

Just then, the attendant appeared behind Markus, and Kaia nodded at him as she handed him the luggage.

“Thank you for your hospitality, Your Highness. I am extremely grateful for your support and care.”

Markus was frozen in disbelief. Kaia nodded in his direction and made a lateral step, ready to

leave, but he blocked her.

“Kaia, what is happening? Talk to me. What is this tone? Why are you so cold?”

She looked at him and replied, “But we are talking, Your Highness. Is there anything you want to

address?”

Markus’s eyes widened with confusion and frustration. “Why are you leaving? Did something happen? I did something. I was maybe too forward. Please tell me. You know about my intentions towards you.”

Kaia’s heart ached at his concern, but she steeled herself, the waves of betrayal squeezing her heart. “Your intentions towards me? How about the Royal Courtship,” she said quietly, watching his

reaction closely.

Markus’s face fell. “Kaia, I-”

She cut him off, her voice trembling but firm. “Why didn’t you tell me, Markus? I had to hear it from Queen Tonya, surrounded by a room full of women eager to compete for your hand. You should

have told me.”

Markus ran a hand through his hair, his frustration evident. “I wanted to, Kaia. I was trying to find a way to avoid it, but the Council-”

“It doesn’t matter. You let me find out in a room full of women who want to become your mate. How do you believe it made me feel?” she interrupted. “I know that you are the King, and you have duties. I understand that. But I can’t compete in something like that. I can’t go through that scrutiny and judgment again. I’m not fit for it. So, why mislead me? You were afraid that I would try to take my life again?” she told him in a tone full of hurt as tears filled her eyes.
