Tea Invitation-2

She hadn’t realized there would be other guests, let alone more than twenty attendees. She

noticed the inquisitive looks directed at her and felt the urge to run away, but she knew that was

not an option. The room buzzed with laughter, gasps, and gossip, and it seemed everyone was

acquainted with each other, except her.

After sitting in silence for what felt like an eternity, one of the beautiful girls present turned to her

and asked, “Who are you?”

Gathering all her courage, Kaia replied, “I am Kaia Storm.”

A silence enveloped the room as everyone’s eyes widened in surprise, and the girl raised an / eyebrow, asking, “Like, Azriel Storm’s sister?”

Kaia nodded, sensing the analytical looks being cast her way. Some were curious, some arrogant,

some mocking.

“What a … surprise, as from what I heard, you preferred to lead a more … private existence,” the beautiful girl replied with an emphasis on the word private. “I am Angelica Stone.”

“Nice to meet you, Angelica,” Kaia replied politely, but inside she was burning with embarrassment and rage at the girl’s insinuations and arrogant look.

Kaia realized that Angelica must be related to the influential Stone Councilor. The tea was an uncomfortable affair, filled with thinly veiled comments and polite, yet probing questions. Just as Kaia thought she could endure no more, Queen Tonya stood up, drawing everyone’s attention.

“Ladies, thank you for coming. I wanted to gather you all here to discuss an important matter,” the Queen began, her eyes scanning the room before settling on Kaia. “As you all know, the Royal Courtship is a cherished tradition of our pack. It is time for us to prepare for this event once more.” Kaia’s heart skipped a beat. The Royal Courtship? She had heard stories about it but in the last few hundred years it was never organized, so why was the Queen bringing into discussion this ancient and outdated event?

Queen Tonya announced in an affected tone that her son had decided to take a chosen mate and, as a result, agreed to respect the tradition and organize a Royal Courtship where eligible girls would compete for a place next to him and in his heart.

Kaia felt the blood drain from her face, a stab in her heart. She was shocked, and even her wolf, Sierra, was confused.

“What?!” Sierra exclaimed in Kaia’s mind. Markus had never mentioned anything like this to her, but

judging by the reactions of some of the ladies gathered today, it seemed that they already knew about it. Kaia felt a deep sense of betrayal. Why hadn’t Markus said anything to her?

After the announcement, the Queen continued, saying that each interested lady should submit their interest and would be invited to the castle for the challenges and testing after their profile

was vetted as acceptable.

One of the girls asked what this meant, and the Queen replied that it involved a background check, physical examination, especially since the future queen should be fertile and able to provide a healthy heir, impeccable etiquette, charisma, and so on.

With each word, Kaia’s heart sank further. She realized that, considering her own circumstances) she wouldn’t pass even the pre-screening. The thought of being in front of the media and public, each gesture judged, was overwhelming.

As the tea party ended, Kaia excused herself and rushed towards her room. Once inside, she crashed next to the door and started to cry in sadness. How stupid could she be to hope that she could be with someone like Markus? If she needed more proof, today’s tea party was a wake-up call. The last week with Markus had been a beautiful dream, but reality was different.

“Sierra, I tried,” she told her wolf. “But we can’t compete in something like that. You know it, and I know it. These competitions are rarely fair, and everything from our past will be used against us. You noticed today’s jabs, and it wasn’t even a competition yet.”

Her wolf whimpered in sadness but didn’t contradict her. With a heavy heart, Kaia took her mobile, wiped her tears, and wrote a message to her brother Azriel, asking him to send a helicopter for her as she wanted to return home. Soon, her phone pinged back with a message: “Are you okay? What

happened?”

She replied, “I just want to return, please.” Azriel responded that her ride would arrive in three hours max. She thanked him, closed her phone, and with a heavy heart, began packing her bag.

The memories of the past week with Markus, the shared moments, the tender kisses, played in her mind, were now overshadowed by the harsh reality of the Royal Courtship. She felt a pang of regret and sorrow. She wanted to believe in Markus, but the betrayal stung too deeply. She needed to leave before her heart shattered further.

Why didn’t he tell her about it? “Unless he already considers us ineligible for the role,” she whispered in sadness.

After some time, she heard a knock on the door, and she made her way to open it.
