Royal Breakfast-3

Lora’s smile widened. “He misses you terribly. It’s been hard to keep him away, but I know he’ll be thrilled to see you again.”

When they were about to leave, Lora took Kaia’s hand and looked into her eyes with emotion. “Kaia, I’d like for us to be friends. I want you to know that I’ll always be here for you, no matter what. We

are family!”

Kaia’s heart swelled with gratitude. She hugged Lora tightly, feeling the bond between them strengthened. “Thank you, Lora. That means more to me than you know. Plus, you are a blessing to us. I still can’t believe that my brother has a mate, especially someone so special as you.”

After Azriel and Lora departed, Kaia remained with Markus. He smiled warmly at her, “I’m really happy you decided to stay, Kaia,” he said, his voice filled with emotion.

Kaia blushed deeply, feeling flustered under his intense gaze. She didn’t say anything, but her reaction made Markus smile in a predatory way, his eyes glinting with amusement and something

deeper.

As he escorted her inside, he asked, “Didn’t you like the dress I sent you today? I noticed you’re still

wearing the green one.”

Kaia looked at him, trying to find the right words. “The red one was a bit too much for breakfast,”

she said finally.

Markus frowned, confusion evident on his face. “Why do you think that?”

“It was too revealing,” Kaia replied, her voice a bit defensive.

Markus’s frown deepened. “That’s not true. It was quite conservative, actually.”

Kaia argued back, feeling a mix of frustration and confusion. “No, it wasn’t. It had revealing

cleavage.”

When they arrived in front of her room, Markus stopped and looked at her seriously. “If you didn’t like it, you could have just said so. I won’t take offense. But it does sadden me that you didn’t like my choice.”

Feeling the light tension between them, Kaia nodded slightly, unsure of what else to say. Markus’s expression softened, and he gave her a small, reassuring smile before leaving her to rest in the assigned guest room.

“See you later, duty calls. Have some rest and let’s catch up

later.”

Inside her room, Kaia found a bag on the bed containing some of her clothes and personal belongings that Lora and Azriel had brought for her. As she started to unpack them, her eyes fell on the gift bag from the morning. She pulled out the red dress again, determined to at least hang it

out of respect for Markus’s gesture.

But as she unfolded the dress, she frowned in disbelief. This dress was light, in a classic style with a high collar, modest and elegant. She was certain that the dress she had tried on that morning had wide, revealing cleavage. What the hell was going on? Was she hallucinating?

“Sierra, do you believe I imagined things?” she asked her wolf, her mind racing with confusion.

Sierra was as baffled as she was. “No way. This is not the dress we tried on this morning.”

“This is very strange,” Kaia murmured, her mind running wild with scenarios but unable to come up

with a viable explanation.

She hung the dress in the closet, her thoughts swirling with uncertainty. Could someone have

swapped the dresses? But why? And how? The questions gnawed at her, leaving her with an

uneasy feeling. She needed to find out what was happening, but for now, she decided to focus on

the immediate task of settling into her temporary guest room.

As she lay on her bed, the image of Markus’s predatory smile flashed in her mind, which made her

forget for the moment about the troubling dress.

On the other side of the castle, Queen Tonya was fuming. Her face was flushed with anger as she faced her aide, Ricky. “How could you be so incompetent?” she demanded, her voice seething with

fury.

Ricky stood nervously, his hands clasped in front of him. “Your Majesty, the dress was delivered as

instructed, replacing the one purchased by King Markus. But the girl chose not to wear it.”

Queen Tonya’s eyes blazed. “And why didn’t the nurse encourage her to wear it?”

Ricky hesitated, choosing his words carefully. “It would have been too obvious, Your Majesty. The nurse thought it best not to push too hard, as it might raise suspicions.”

Tonya clenched her fists, barely containing her rage. “Incompetence,” she hissed. “I can’t tolerate this level of failure. You are not paid to think but to act.”

Ricky bowed his head, murmuring a quick apology before she dismissed him with a wave of her hand. As the door closed behind him, Tonya’s expression darkened further.

“So,” she muttered to herself, her voice dripping with malice, “it seems Kaia Storm wants to play. Then let’s play.”
