Terrified-1

Azriel was speechless upon hearing that his best friend had imprinted on Kaia. He was even a bit

annoyed. “Markus, your wolf, Stinger, wouldn’t have imprinted on her if you, his human counterpart,

weren’t attracted to her.”

Markus admitted sheepishly, “When Kaia came of age, I hoped she would be my mate. But after

everything that happened, especially with her rejection and the fallout, I decided to give her space

Plus, I was still waiting for my fated mate.”

Azriel was stunned. “I never imagined you felt this way towards my sister.”

Markus hummed, conflicted. “I did, and maybe I still do.”

Azriel sighed, running a hand through his hair. “This is insane. I never imagined this. So, what are

your next steps?”

“Stinger is trying every day to reach Kaia’s wolf. At the moment, she is our only hope for Kaia to

return,” Markus replied.

Azriel was still conflicted. “How serious are you about her, Markus? For the Goddess’ sake. She is

my sister!”

Markus didn’t hesitate. “Serious enough to fight for her and, if she accepts me, to make her my

queen.

Azriel was taken aback. “That’s a tall order, especially with someone as difficult as my mother,

Queen Tonya, around, plus hundreds of ambitious she-wolves that are hoping to catch your eye. I

need you to give me your word, Markus, your word!”

Markus’s expression hardened. “My mate is my choice, and my mother will have to learn to accept

my decisions. And the other she-wolves don’t really matter. You know that I wasn’t a womanizer.

Yes, I had my share of encounters, but I never made any promises.”

After a few more exchanges, they ended the call. Markus felt a sense of relief wash over him.

Confessing his feelings to his best friend had been a daunting task, but it felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Perhaps if he had had the courage to confess earlier, he could have

approached Kaia sooner.

Stinger surfaced in their shared mind. “At that time, we were still waiting for our fated mate,” he reminded Markus.

“Look where that took us,” Markus replied bitterly.

“Kaia and Sierra are different. They are worthy of standing next to us,” Stinger asserted.

Markus nodded in agreement. “You’re right. They are worthy, and I will do everything in my power to

help them heal and bring them back.”

The day passed in a blur with all the royal commitments and, as usual, when the evening arrived, Markus visited Kaia. Stinger, his wolf, did the same thing as always, creating a calm and secure

environment around him. He kept calling out to Sierra, and to their surprise, her medical machines beeped again. Markus could feel Stinger’s agitation and cautiousness, but he gave him full control as usual. After good minutes of waiting, Stinger came back to his mind and opened his link.

“She finally replied,” Stinger told Markus, his voice tinged with a mix of excitement and caution.

Markus was shocked, barely believing what he was hearing. “Sierra? What did she say?”

“Tonight, for the first time, she came out of her hiding and asked what I wanted,” Stinger explained. told her that I wanted to talk to her and provide her companionship. We stood in silence next to each

other for a while.”

Markus listened intently, his heart racing.

“Then I asked her why she was hiding,” Stinger continued. “She replied that she felt ashamed of disappointing her human, Kaia. She felt she wasn’t enough for their mate and couldn’t protect her from the pain.”

Markus felt a pang of sorrow. “What did you say to her?”

“I told her that she couldn’t have done anything to prevent what happened,” Stinger said. “And that

Kaia needs her. She told me she was scared, and I reassured her that I am here to support her.”

Markus nodded, feeling a mix of hope and concern. “Did she believe you?”

“She asked why I was encouraging her and kept on visiting her,” Stinger replied. “I told her because I

would like to have a chance to become mates. She became flustered, shy and ran back into hiding.”

Markus felt a wave of anxiety. “What if we scared her away?”
