Royal Tensions-2
Anton raised his hand, trying to calm the situation. “Enough, both of you. This is not the place for
such a discussion.”
Markus took a deep breath, trying to rein in his temper. “I will not be dictated to, not by you, Mother, or anyone else. I already have someone in mind as a chosen mate, so you don’t need to worry about it, so stop meddling.”
With that, he turned and left the dining hall, leaving his parents in stunned silence. As he walked away, his heart pounded with frustration and determination. He would fight for Kaja, for their future, and he would not let anyone, not even his mother, dictate his path.
Markus always had a good relationship with his parents, especially with his father, Anton. They shared a mutual respect and understanding, often discussing kingdom matters and personal concerns with ease. His father was a steady presence, a pillar of wisdom and strength, someone Markus looked up to and admired deeply.
However, his mother, Tonya, was a different story. She was the quintessential Queen B, the supreme female of their species, gracious, impeccable, and strong, but also somewhat snobbish at times. Her demeanor commanded respect and admiration, but her inclination to control every aspect of their lives often proved challenging.
Markus had grown accustomed to her over-involvement, usually choosing to ignore her tendencies to maintain harmony within the family. He knew her intentions were rooted in love and concern, but this time, she had crossed a line. Sending Angelica, the councilor’s daughter, to his chambers without any prior discussion was a blatant overstep.
As he stormed out of the dining hall, his mind raced with frustration. Why hadn’t she tried to talk to him first? Why resort to such an underhanded tactic? He understood her worries about the dynasty and the need for an heir, but this wasn’t the way to address those concerns.
Markus headed towards his chambers; his steps heavy with the weight of the morning’s confrontation. He knew he needed to address this with his mother, to set boundaries and make her understand that he wouldn’t be manipulated. But more pressing was the need to focus on Kaia, who lay unconscious, fighting for her life.
He entered his room and sank into a chair, running a hand through his hair in exasperation.
After the confrontation with his mother, Markus felt the need to connect with someone who truly
understood him. He decided to call his best friend, Azriel.
As soon as Azriel picked up the call, his voice was filled with concern. “Is there something wrong

with Kaia?”
Markus quickly reassured him, “No, that’s not the reason I’m calling. I just needed to talk.”
Azriel relaxed slightly. “What’s going on?”

Markus recounted the events with his mother, the tense conversation, and his frustration. Azrie sighed, “Queen Tonya was always a bit overbearing and difficult. I’m not surprised she gave you a hard time.”
“Yeah,” Markus replied, “but it’s still exhausting.”
Trying to shift the topic, Markus asked, “How are Lora and Asher?”
Azriel’s voice brightened, “Happier than ever. I can’t believe I could be this happy. Lora’s amazing, and Asher’s been so full of energy. I feel like a got reborn. All the anguish, the suffering, are still in my mind but as memories. Thunder is back under control and his feral outbursts are gone.”
Markus smiled, genuinely happy for his friend. “You deserve it, Azriel. I’m glad things are going
well.”
After some time, Azriel’s tone became more serious. “So, since Kaia is the same, maybe it’s time I
took her back to my pack. I don’t know, maybe try again with Lora to heal her.”
Markus felt an unexpected pressure in his chest. “No,” he said firmly, almost surprising himself.
Azriel paused, sensing the tension. “Why not?”
“She’s… she’s okay where she is,” Markus stammered, trying to find the right words.
Azriel’s suspicion grew. “How is she OK when there are no improvements? What the hell is
happening, Markus? What are you not telling me? Spill it.”
Markus took a deep breath, knowing he couldn’t keep this from his friend any longer. “Stinger
imprinted on Kaia.”
Azriel was stunned. “He did what?!”
“Yeah,” Markus confirmed. “It happened when I was with her in the hospital. Stinger came forward
and… he imprinted on her.”
