When Markus stepped inside Kaia’s hospital room, his wolf, Stinger, surged forward, curiosity and concern evident in his heightened senses. As he approached the bed, a pang of sadness washed over him, a heaviness settling in his chest. Kaia’s still figure, surrounded by the hum of medical
machines, seemed so far from the lively girl he had known.
He sat down beside her, memories flooding his mind. Kaia had been a constant presence in his life
since his friendship with Azriel began. He remembered her as a mischievous younger sister, her antics always bringing a smile to his face. Her childhood crush on him had been endearing, a
phase that had amused him greatly. As she matured, their conversations deepened each time he
was visiting, and he saw her potential as a compassionate and wise person. It had broken his heart when the rogue attack nearly took her life.
The journey to her recovery had been long and difficult. He had prayed to the Moon Goddess for her healing, and when she began to emerge from her shell as a young woman, despite her scars,
hope had rekindled in his heart. He had entertained the possibility that she might be his fated
mate. She possessed all the qualities of a good queen: kindness, thoughtfulness, and a warm spirit
that endeared her to everyone.
As her eighteenth birthday approached, he had been filled with trepidation. Meeting her that day,
his disappointment was hard to hide when he felt nothing beyond the bond of friendship. Stinger,
his wolf, shared his disillusion. Yet, what followed was even more heartbreaking. Her fated mate’s
brutal rejection had shattered her, leaving deep scars that were more than skin deep.
Markus had learned from Azriel about her withdrawal, but the extent of her suffering only became
clear after Lora’s Luna ceremony. The realization of how close she had come to ending her life had
left him reeling. Despite his close bond with Azriel, he couldn’t bring himself to share this painful
truth with his best friend.
He took a long, steadying breath and gently held Kaia’s hand in his, the connection grounding him.
His voice was soft, filled with determination and warmth as he began to speak to her. “Kaia, it’s
Markus. I’m here with you, and I refuse to let you slip away. You have so much to offer, so much life left to live. The world needs your kindness, your strength.”
His words were steady, even as his emotions swirled within him. “I know you’ve been through unimaginable pain, but you’re not alone. You have people who love you, who need you. Azriel needs you…I need you.”
As he spoke, he felt a deep connection forming, as if his words were reaching out to her spirit, urging her to fight, and he could feel Singer’s attention. He continued, “You are stronger than you know, Kaia. You’ve always been a light in our lives, and we won’t let that light go out. Hold on, for

us, for yourself.”
Markus felt his wolf, Stinger, pushing to the surface with an intensity he rarely experienced. He decided to let him take over, trusting Stinger’s instincts. Almost immediately, he felt the powerful Alpha King aura radiate from Stinger, but this time it was different, gentle, comforting, and non-threatening. The aura filled the room, creating an atmosphere of safety and warmth.
As the moments passed, Markus noticed a subtle change in the medical machines. They began to flash, indicating a shift in Kaia’s condition. His heart jumped in his chest when he saw her eyes flutter slightly before settling back into unconsciousness. Markus was in awe and asked Stinger,” What did you do?”
Stinger’s presence was calm and reassuring as he replied, “I created a safe atmosphere where Sierra could come forward.”
“Sierra?” Markus repeated, confused.
“Sierra is Kaia’s wolf,” Stinger explained.
“Did you communicate with her?” Markus asked, his voice tinged with hope and surprise.
“Not yet,” Stinger replied. “But she acknowledged me. It’s a start.”
Markus felt a surge of relief and hope. This was the first sign of progress since Kaia had fallen into her coma. He realized that Stinger’s gentle approach had made a difference, creating a space
where Kaia’s wolf, Sierra, felt safe enough to respond, even if only briefly.
