When Lora and Azriel arrived at the pack clinic, they were greeted by Doctor Luigi and Mary. After she moved back to the pack, Mary started working at the pack’s hospital, supporting Luigi. After a few polite exchanges, Azriel’s tone grew tense as he asked, “How is Kaia doing?”
The doctor sighed, shaking his head slightly. “No change, I’m afraid. She’s still in a coma, far away from reality.”
Lora stepped forward, her expression determined. “I would like to visit her.”
Doctor Luigi nodded and led them to the private medical reserve. As they entered the room, Lora’s heart clenched at the sight before her. Kaia lay motionless on the bed, her face pale and marred by a heavily scarred left side. When she met her, Lora could not see her face due to the veil that Kaia wore, but now everything was visible. Her arms bore various old scars, testament to the horrors she had endured. Lora lifted her hand to her mouth in horror, seeing the cruelty that poor Kaia
endured.
Azriel stepped behind her, offering his support. “She has scars like this everywhere on her body. The rogues did a number on her.”
Lora’s eyes filled with tears, anger simmering beneath the surface, “How could someone be so cruel? She went through so much pain.”
Azriel winced, his voice heavy with sorrow. “She wasn’t shifted when the attack happened, so she had no wolf to help her heal. Later, her wolf arrives, giving Kaia hope. But after their mate’s brutal rejection and mockery, her wolf withdrew completely.”
Lora took a deep breath, wiping her tears away. She turned to Doctor Luigi with a resolute expression. “We’ll try to see what’s wrong with her and if we can heal her.”
Doctor Luigi nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. “Do whatever you need to.
Hopefully, we will have a positive outcome and the Goddess Gift will defeat her suffering.”
Lora approached Kaia’s bedside, her hands trembling slightly as she placed them gently on Kaia’s
forehead. Closing her eyes, she concentrated, reaching deep within herself to connect with her
healing powers. Azriel stood beside her, holding her from behind, his presence a pillar of strength.
Minutes passed in tense silence. A soft, warm glow began to emanate from Lora’s hands,
spreading over Kaia’s still form. Lora focused intently, searching for any sign of response from Kaia’s wolf. She whispered softly, “Kaia, if you can hear me, please come back. We need you.”
Azriel watched with bated breath, his heart pounding. The glow from Lora’s hands intensified, then
slowly began to fade. Lora opened her eyes, exhaustion evident but determination unwavering. “I

Doctor Luigi checked Kaia’s vital signs, nodding approvingly. “Her pulse is stronger. Whatever you do, it helps. Look, her scars from her body are faded now, leaving only small marks which could be
hidden.”
Azriel squeezed Lora’s hand, gratitude and hope in his eyes. “Thank you, Lora. No matter what happens, you did everything you could.”
Lora noded her head, exhausted. What she did not tell her mate was the darkness and despair that she felt in Kaia’s body. Despite healing and fading her wounds, she realized in a grim realization that Kaia’s illness was not a physical one, but her own spirit was shattered. Also, as a doctor, she realized that Kaia could wake up normally if the wounds were just physical, but it was like she lost her will to live, like she abandoned the fight.
They stood vigil by Kaia’s side, watching for any sign of improvement, but to their disappointment, they realized that she had not woken up.
Lora’s heart broke for her mate Azriel sensing his sadness, anguish and suffering.
Lora could feel Azriel’s anguish deep in her soul, an echo of his pain resonating through their bond. Despite their best efforts, Kaia remained unresponsive. Tears welled in Lora’s eyes as she turned to him, her voice trembling, “I’m so sorry, Azriel. Maybe if we could try again …”
Azriel gently took her hands and kissed them, his eyes filled with gratitude and sorrow. “It is OK, my dove. You did everything you could, Lora. I’m grateful for that.”
