Chapter 201 Love?
Autumn was speechless.
Beckett gave her shoulder a pat. “Nothing hooks a rich heir faster than a dramatic rescue.”
“Oh, come on.” Autumn rolled her eyes. “If I’d known he was the Yorks heir, I’d have let somebody else save him.”

“We’ve got company.” Leonel glanced toward the door. “Matthew’s headed this way with his people. Get in your storage space.”
She didn’t hesitate. One step, and she disappeared.
A knock came at the door.
Matthew walked in with several men behind him.
His eyes swept across the room, searching. When he didn’t find who he wanted, disappointment flashed across his face.
He acted like Leonel and Beckett weren’t even there.
Neither of them minded. The less attention they got, the fewer questions they’d have to answer.
Matthew was almost out the door when something caught his eye. He looked at the table. “Someone else was here.”
.eonel followed his gaze. The extra cup. Damn.
‘Just us,” Beckett said without blinking.
Matthew let out a cold laugh. “You expect me to believe that, hmm?” He pointed at the table. “Two people. Three cups.”
‘Oh, that one’s yours,” Leonel said smoothly. “We heard you were coming. We figured we should have coffee ready.”
Matthew ignored the flattery. “I’m looking for someone. He’s around 20. Not very tall. Good-looking. Has a wild streak. Cocky as hell. And dense when it comes to women.”
.eonel had to admit… That was a surprisingly accurate description.
He shook his head. “Can’t help you. Maybe try the other rooms.”
Matthew studied them for another second. Then he turned and walked away.
About 15 minutes later, Autumn finally stepped out of her storage space. “Is he gone?” she asked quietly.
Leonel and Beckett looked at her, trying not to laugh. “Looks like you’ve caught his eye, Autumn,” Beckett teased.
“Oh, please.” Autumn looked thoroughly disgusted. “Keep the romance. I’d rather have dessert.”
“I don’t think he bought our story. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s got people watching the door. The second you step outside, they’ll grab you.” Leonel paused. “Matthew may look harmless, but there’s something obsessive about him.”
Beckett nodded. “Yeah. Sweet face, crazy vibes.”

“Exactly!” Autumn threw up her hands. “Matthew’s seriously unhinged. He’s the heir to the Yorks, yet he’s outside the city pretending to get pushed around like some helpless victim. What sane person does that? Heh. It’s obviously a trap. If you ignore him, you’re cold-hearted. If you help him, he latches onto you. That’s not normal. That’s insane!”
Leonel reached over and pressed the back of his hand to her forehead. “Huh. You’re thinking way clearer than I expected I thought we’d have to talk some sense into you.”
Beckett laughed. “Autumn was never the type to lose her head over love. People like that don’t make it far.”
Autumn rolled her eyes so hard they almost disappeared. “Love? I don’t even have that setting installed. Forget Matthew. Even if some perfectly normal guy showed up, I’d still pass.” She jabbed a finger toward the window. “It’s the apocalypse. We should be worrying about staying alive, not dating. Well, other people probably should date. Otherwise, how’s the base supposed to grow its population?”
Leonel and Beckett burst out laughing.
That was Autumn. Clear-headed to the core.
Nobody survived until the final stage of the apocalypse by living in a fantasy.
Leonel finally asked, “So how are we getting out of here? If you’re hiding in your space, can we carry you outside?”
Autumn shook her head. “No. I always come back out at the same spot where I went in. But don’t worry. I’ve got an idea.”
Just then, Beckett looked out the window. “Hey! Look over there.”
Lutumn and Leonel followed his gaze. On the raised platform outside, a handsome young man had just been chosen from the rowd.
He walked up to Emily, dropped to one knee, and opened a small box in his hand. “Ms. Blake, I’ve had a crush on you for a long ime. Please give me the chance to take care of you.”
Emily barely spared him a glance. “I guess I’ll give you a shot.”
Autumn crossed her arms and watched the scene below. “So, how long do you think this poor guy lasts?”
Five days,” Beckett guessed.
‘Three,” Leonel said.
The three of them burst out laughing.
Not a single one of them had any faith in the poor fool.
Emily looked like the bait. In reality, she was the predator. No woman could hold onto the heir’s seat without being ruthless.
