‘You’ve officially run out of disguises,” Beckett said. “Young guy. White woman. Local woman. Adult man. Every single one is wanted.”
‘So this is all I’ve got left. Cute little princess.” Autumn pinched the ruffles on her skirt with obvious disgust. “Can we go already? I nate wearing this thing.”
.eonel looked her over. “And if someone asks who you are?”
‘My cover story? A rich client gave me to you.” She shrugged. “You accepted out of politeness. Later, you decide I’m not your type and sell me.”
Beckett laughed and gave her a thumbs-up. “You’re unbelievable. Most people wouldn’t joke about selling themselves.”
‘It’s not like it’s real.” As soon as she reached the door, the joking stopped.
Her shoulders curled in. Her chin lowered. The confident woman disappeared, replaced by a timid girl trying very hard not to look
¡cared.
The transformation was instant. Leonel and Beckett stared for a second before silently giving her another thumbs-up.
They stepped out first, and Autumn followed a pace behind.
standing between two men built like linebackers, even she looked surprisingly petite.
No one paid them much attention. Just a few curious glances. Nothing more.
This district had seen every kind of eccentric rich guy imaginable. One showing up with a doll-like girl on his arm wasn’t exactly
headline news.
The moment they reached the lobby, they spotted the checkpoint. Guards were stopping everyone who came through, checking aces one by one. “Amos?” one of them kept asking. “Seen anyone named Amos?”
Obviously, Matthew had left people behind to wait for Autumn to walk right into their hands.
.eonel and Beckett kept walking without so much as a glance back.
‘Hold on!” A guard stepped in front of them, then looked past them at Autumn.
Her shoulders immediately tensed, her eyes dropped, and she wore the hesitant smile of someone too scared to speak.
‘Who is she?”
Leonel didn’t miss a beat. “A gift. One of our business partners insisted, you know.”
The guard jerked his chin at a woman nearby. “Check her.”
The woman walked over and, without a word, reached straight for Autumn’s breast. A quick squeeze.
Then she nodded. “She’s female.”
Autumn fought the urge to grimace. She quietly smoothed out her dress instead. She wasn’t exactly used to strangers groping her.

The guard turned back to Leonel. “Have you seen a guy? About 20. Around her height. Narrow eyes. Sharp features. Nose like…”
Leonel and Beckett shook their heads together. “Nepe. We’ve been in our room the whole time.”
The guard waved them off. “Move along Next.”
They walked out without another hitch.
The second they rounded a deserted corner, Autumn vanished into her storage space. A minute later, the ridiculous dress was gone. She finally let out a long breath.
Beckett grinned. “Well, today wasn’t a total waste. We actually got to see Autumn dressed up, though.””
“And somehow you pulled off every bit of it,” Leonel added. “Guy, girl, tough, cute… You can play anything. If this were before the apocalypse, you’d probably be an actress.”
Autumn rolled her eyes. “Yeah, right. Before all this, I was just a kitchen helper with a dead-end job.”
Leonel opened his mouth to tease her again. Then someone called out behind them. “Amos… is that you?”
“Shit!” Autumn’s face changed instantly. “Don’t look back! You two go left. I’ll head right. Run!”
She was gone before the last word left her mouth, taking off like she’d been fired from a cannon.
“There! I found him!” Matthew’s eyes lit up. He charged after her without a second thought, his men racing after him.
With every pursuer locked onto Autumn, Leonel and Beckett were left alone.
However, neither of them relaxed. They took the opposite direction, doubled back several times, switched disguises more than once, and only returned to Silas’s place after they were sure nobody was following.
The moment they walked in, they asked, “Is Autumn back?”
Silas frowned. “No. Wasn’t she with you?”
Leonel and Beckett exchanged a look.
Uh-oh.
This was bad.
Matthew wasn’t playing around anymore.
Autumn had really done it this time. She never did anything halfway. One accidental rescue, and she’d managed to make the Yorks’ heir completely obsessed with her.
Meanwhile, Autumn was cursing herself. Why did I have to play the hero? If I’d known Matthew was this insane, I would’ve walked right past him that day.
Serves you right, Autumn. You just had to stick your nose where it didn’t belong.
She’d survived her last life without making stupid mistakes like this. A few comfortable years had made her forget one thing. The apocalypse was full of lunatics.
