No More Mrs. Forgotten novel Chapter 38

Josiah let the sentence hang, leaving the unspoken implications for Paula to weigh herself.

His pacing was steady, his words resolute and heavy, effectively anchoring the chaotic, highly volatile situation.

Reuben stepped forward, his voice completely raw as he tried to reason with his wife. "Josiah isn't entirely wrong. You can't... you can't blame Sharon. If you have to blame anything, blame Caleb for loving her so fiercely. Nobody wanted an accident to happen. Caleb's up there right now, and watching you treat Sharon like this will only break his heart."

Her husband's words finally broke Paula, and she dissolved into agonizing sobs.

However, the confrontation had been rationally and effectively diffused.

Sharon stood completely frozen, overwhelmed by a violent storm of conflicting emotions.

Eventually, she forced out a hoarse whisper. "Mrs. Fletcher, I'm so sorry."

The second the words left her mouth, both York and Josiah snapped their gazes to her.

Her face was terrifyingly pale. York frowned deeply and finally reached out, taking her hand in his.

Josiah retracted his gaze.

With her rationality somewhat restored, Paula simply wept powerlessly, shaking her head.

Josiah glanced back at Sharon, pressing a finger to his lips, silently ordering her... to stop talking.

She didn't need to volunteer as the scapegoat.

Paula's emotional whiplash and baseless accusations were entirely understandable—it was an inevitable eruption when someone was pushed past their breaking point by devastating trauma.

She desperately needed to find a "villain" to temporarily carry the unbearable weight of her grief.

The current Paula was going to need a very long time to heal.

Saying anything more right now was utterly pointless.

However, right at that very second, a weak, frail voice sliced through the silence. "Mom. What about me, then?"

That voice...

It was Emeline!

Everyone jolted in shock, their heads snapping toward the source. They saw Emeline standing there, her face equally ashen, biting her lip as she issued her bitter, devastating question.

It was as if Paula had just been rudely awakened from a nightmare... Emeline was her daughter-in-law!

And... she was carrying Caleb's child!

She had been so emotionally unstable, her mind completely clouded, entirely swallowed by the agony of losing her son.

If she wanted to be ruthless, Emeline could have easily threatened to abort the child on the spot.

Emeline had become the ultimate victim here, suffering a humiliation that was downright agonizing.

It was far too cruel.

The realization nearly scared Paula out of her mind. Shaking with panic, she hurried toward her daughter-in-law.

But tears simply streamed down Emeline's face. Shaking her head slowly, she took two steps backward.

Terrified of what she might do, Paula lunged forward, desperate to salvage the situation.

Without warning, Emeline's eyes rolled back in her head, and she collapsed in a dead faint.

The sudden drop sent a violent jolt of panic through the crowd.

"Emeline!" Lamont shouted.

It was his own sister; he was instantly out of his mind with worry.

But before Lamont could even finish his shout, York had already rushed forward, sweeping Emeline into his arms and roaring with frantic panic, "Call an ambulance!"
