No More Mrs. Forgotten novel Chapter 20

Sharon paused. "Pick me up?"

"Yeah, pick you up. You're riding with us," Josiah said.

For some reason, Sharon couldn't find her voice.

Josiah lit a cigarette. "What? Are you planning to ride with York?"

Sharon didn't know what to say. She just held the phone in silence.

"Wow, you really are something," Josiah scoffed. "The man is literally bringing his precious golden girl home to play house, and you're still going to ride in the same car as him? What? Did you guys have a nice little chat? Did he manage to sweet-talk you into happily serving as Emeline's personal caretaker?"

Having Sharon personally take care of Emeline was wildly inappropriate on every possible level.

Both women were wealthy heiresses, and the Nash family was actually more powerful than the Monroe family. So, in terms of social standing, they were entirely equal. There was absolutely no reason for one to lower herself to wait on the other.

If she were doing it out of friendship, or purely out of respect for Caleb, that would be one thing. But the glaring issue was that Sharon and Emeline absolutely despised each other.

Josiah thought this entire "caretaking" arrangement was complete bullshit.

York was acting like an absolute bastard! His brain was fully broken!

"No," Sharon finally spoke, her throat feeling tight and painfully dry.

Josiah took a drag of his cigarette. "Took you long enough. I thought you'd actually gone mute. If you didn't agree to it, then why are you still riding with him? Sharon, have you seriously forgotten how to fight back?"

Sharon forced a bitter smile. Oh, she had definitely fought back today.

"Why do you talk so much?" she snapped weakly.

Despite her tone, Josiah easily caught the thick tearfulness in her voice. After a two-second pause, he said, "Tomorrow morning at eight. I'll be outside your house."

He was about to hang up.

"Stop messing around," Sharon protested.

"Then what exactly do you want to do?" Josiah countered.

His words caught Sharon completely off guard. It took her several seconds to finally respond, "Are you out of your mind?"

"Yeah, completely," Josiah replied.

Sharon rubbed her temples in exasperation. "Enough. Give it a rest. If Adele hears you talking like this, she's going to skin you alive."

Before he could respond, Sharon added firmly, "And if you ever do anything to hurt my best friend, I won't let you off the hook either."

Josiah chuckled softly. "If you took all that aggressive energy you use on me and aimed it at York, you'd be in much better shape."

Sharon was rendered speechless again. This guy always knew exactly how to twist the knife.

She was about to ignore him entirely when Adele's voice suddenly erupted through the speaker.

"See? This is exactly why it's sisters before misters!"

Sharon hadn't realized Adele was with Josiah. Given how late it was, if they were still hanging out together, their relationship had to be going incredibly well.
