Chapter 239 Triggering The Main Security Alarm
The coil in my stomach pulled tight The tension reached the breaking point. A wave of heat rushed through my veins. I tightened my grip on his shoulders.
I shattered. A silent, blinding release.
Tristan groaned against my skin. His chest heaved. He finished a heartbeat later. He buried his face in my hair. He held me pinned to the glass. Our breathing synced. The frantic thud of my heart leveled out.
The fear evaporated. Cold, lethal focus remained.
He lowered my feet to the floor. We stepped back. We did not exchange words. The physical connection said everything. We faced the fire together.
We dressed in silence.
I slipped into the black silk gown. The fabric clung to my curves. A high slit exposed my left thigh. A hidden holster strapped to my upper leg held the compact handgun. I possessed teeth.
Tristan stood behind me. He zipped the back of the dress. His knuckles brushed my spine. He stepped away and put on his own clothes. A custom, midnight- black tuxedo. He adjusted his cuffs. He looked lethal. A predator hiding in high-society armor.
He opened the titanium case. He pulled out two tiny, clear earpieces. He handed one to me. I inserted the device into my right ear. He placed the other in his own ear.
“Test,’ his voice murmured in my ear.
“Loud and clear,” I replied.
“We review the mechanics, Tristan said. He closed the titanium case. “The proxy holds the master ledger on a physical drive. He waits in the VIP lounge on the second floor. You enter the lounge. You play the role of an anonymous buyer. You keep his eyes on you.”
‘I isolate the target,” I confirmed.
‘I separate from you at the main staircase,” Tristan continued. “I scale the exterior wall of the west wing. I breach the sub-basement vault. I copy the drive
data. We reunite at the front gates.”
‘Five minutes,’ I reminded him. I met his stare. ‘You get five minutes at the vault door. Then you walk away.”
‘Five minutes, he agreed.
We picked up the masks from the bottom of the garment bags. My mask featured intricate black lace. It covered the top half of my face, leaving my mouth
exposed. Tristan held a solid, matte-black mask.
We put them on. The transformation finalized. Minerva Hayes and Tristan Johnston vanished into the ether. We became nameless ghosts in a city of secrets.
We left the fitting room. Luka waited by the front door. He did not ask questions. He handed Tristan a set of keys.
A clean sedan sits in the front parking structure, Luka said. ‘Do not bring it back.”
The machine processed the data. A soft chime sounded. The screen flashed green.
Access Granted.
Tristan stepped through the turnstile. He waited on the other side of the gate.
The guard turned to me. He gestured to the lens.
I stepped forward. I held my breath. I squared my shoulders. I projected the unbreakable confidence of a Chairman. I leaned into the machine.
The blue laser swept across my eye.
The machine processed the data.
A harsh, grating alarm blared. The sound shattered the quiet murmur of the guests. The screen flashed a blinding, violent red.
The heavy iron gates slammed shut in front of me with a deafening crash. The turnstile locked. Steel barricades deployed from the stone walls.
The crowd gasped. Guests scrambled backward.
The massive guard raised his rifle. He aimed the barrel directly at my chest. Three other guards ran toward my position, drawing their sidearms.
‘Hands where I can see them!” the guard snarled. His finger tightened on the trigger. Do not move!”
