Chapter 229 The Truth About The Ledger
Tristan nodded. Diego disappeared into the dark.
The heavy metal door clicked shut. Tristan and I stood in the small room. The only light came from a crack in the ceiling, letting the moonlight bleed onto
the concrete floor.
The adrenaline vanished. The raw reality of our situation crushed my chest. I lost the empire. I lost my home. I dragged my son into the dirt. The mother
bear inside me roared with failure.
I turned away from the cot. I walked toward the far wall. I wrapped my arms around my waist. I tried to pull air into my burning lungs.
Tristan closed the distance. He stood behind me. The heat radiating from his chest warmed my back.
‘Do not build a cage in your head, Mina, Tristan said. His voice cut through the dark.
“I gave Sterling the ledger,” I whispered. “I built the weapon. I handed it to him on a silver platter. I ruined us.”
Tristan grabbed my shoulders. He spun me around. He backed me into the concrete wall. The impact knocked the breath from my lungs. He crowded my space. He framed my face with rough, dirt-stained hands.
“You protected your family,” Tristan corrected. His gray eyes burned with a fierce, uncompromising fire. “You executed a flawless strategy against Julian. You did not fail. Sterling cheated.”
The tension snapped. The wire broke.
I grabbed the collar of his t-shirt. I pulled him down. I crashed my mouth against his.
The kiss lacked tenderness. It held zero romance. It was a collision of raw panic, defiance, and primal need. I needed to feel him. I needed to prove we
survived the night.
Tristan responded with equal force. He crushed his mouth against mine. He tasted like copper and sweat. He shoved his hands under my shirt. His calloused fingers gripped my bare skin. A jolt of fire shot down my spine. I arched against him, seeking the friction.
We fought the world. We fought the hitmen. We fought the federal government. But in this concrete room, we stripped the armor away.
He unbuttoned my jeans with impatient hands. I pushed his shirt up, feeling the hard ridges of his scars and the heavy muscle f his chest. He lifted me. I wrapped my legs around his waist. He pinned me to the cold wall.
He entered me with a hard, blunt thrust.
I bit my lip to silence my gasp. I remembered Elias sleeping a few feet away. I buried my face in Tristan’s neck. I absorbed the impact. He set a punishing
rhythm. Skin slapping against skin. The rough concrete scraped my back. I did not care about the pain. I craved it. The physical sensation drowned the tear.
It silenced the ghosts.
Every thrust drove the Johnston titan deeper into my blood. We possessed no bank accounts. We possessed no titles. We owned nothing but this raw, animal
connection.
I dug my nails into his shoulders. The coil in my stomach pulled tight. I chased the edge. Tristan gripped my hips, his fingers leaving bruises on my flesh. He drove deep and held me against the wall. A harsh shudder wrecked his massive frame. He buried his face in my shoulder. His breath burned my skin.

1 shattered a second later. Asilent, blinding release. The dark roum faded. The fear dissolved.
We stayed pinned to the wall. He kept his forehead pressed against my neck. Our chests heaved in unison: We caught our breath in the shadows.
He lowered my feet to the floor. He smoothed my hair back from my face.
“We are breathing, Tristan whispered. He kissed my forehead. A promise.
“We are breathing, I agreed.
I fixed my clothes. I walked back to the cot. Elias slept undisturbed.
Tristan pulled a secondary burner phone from his tactical vest. He checked the encrypted signal.
“We need a plan,” Tristan stated. He leaned against the metal door. “We cannot stay in this warehouse past sunrise. Sterling will expand the search grid. We
need to leave the country. We need to go dark.”
I stared at the dusty concrete floor. My mind clicked back into place. The physical release cleared the fog of panic. The Chairman emerged from the dirt.
*Sterling possessed our exact financial blueprint,” I deduced. I spoke the pieces of the puzzle aloud. “He knew the routing numbers for the offshore Cayman trust. He knew the Cypriot holding companies. Those accounts were classified.”
“He acquired the files during the raid on headquarters, Tristan suggested.
“No,” I countered. I turned to face my husband. “Ricardo scrubbed the headquarters mainframes three weeks ago. The offshore routing numbers existed in one place. The digital ledger Celeste created for Julian. The ledger I exposed at the shareholder meeting.”
Tristan frowned. He tracked my logic. “You presented that ledger to the board. Sterling confiscated it.”
‘Sterling altered the metadata to frame me,” I said. The realization crystallized into pure, cold certainty. “But to alter the metadata, he needed the source code. He needed the decryption keys. Only one person held the original keys to the Whitmore ghost accounts.”
Julian.
Julian did not just hand the ledger to the federal government. He partnered with the federal prosecutor. Sterling used Julian to crush the Johnston Group.
Julian used Sterling to frame me.
Julian,’ Tristan growled. The name tasted like poison.
‘Julian, I confirmed.
‘He sits in a supermax cell, Tristan noted. ‘He is isolated. He possesses zero reach.”
‘He possesses Sterling, I corrected. I walked toward the metal door. I picked up my heavy jacket from the floor. I slipped my arms into the sleeves. The
mother bear prepared for a hunt. “Sterling is the weapon, but Julian provided the ammunition. Julian knows the architecture of the trap.”
‘Mina, Tristan warned. He saw the shift in my eyes. He recognized the lethal calculation.
‘I need the weakness,’ I stated. I zipped the jacket. “If Sterling took bribes from Thomas Whitmore, Julian knows where the proof is buried. Julian holds the
map.

Chapter 229 The Truth About The Ledger
Tristan pushed-off the door. He blocked my path. “Julian is in the most secure federal prison in the capital. You are a wanted fugitive. The FBI plastered your face across every news network.
‘I do not care,” I said. My voice turned to steel. I met his imposing stare. “We cannot fight Sterling blind. We cannot run forever with Elias looking over his shoulder. I need to dismantle the federal machine, and Julian holds the key.”
Tristan locked his jaw. He recognized the immovable force of my decision.
‘Before we leave the capital,” I declared. “I am walking into that supermax. I am going to see my brother.”
