Chapter 225 The FBI Came For Us
The last loose end tied. The board required a firm hand this week to ensure the transition remained smooth, but we had the weekend. Two days to remember how to breathe. Two days to exist without the armor.
Then, a sound shattered the quiet.
It was a sharp, electronic chirp. It did not come from my personal phone. It did not come from Tristan’s Johnston Group device.
Tristan froze. The spatula in his hand went still.
Diego turned his head. His hand drifted toward the holster concealed beneath his jacket.
The sound came from the heavy canvas duffel bag Tristan dumped near the entryway last night. A burner phone. An untraceable line reserved for catastrophic emergencies. Only one person possessed the number.
“Watch him,” Tristan ordered Diego. He nodded toward Elias.
Tristan crossed the kitchen. He knelt beside the duffel bag and unzipped the front pocket. He pulled out a thick, black device. The screen flashed with an
encrypted caller ID.
Ricardo.
Tristan answered the call. He put the phone to his ear. He did not speak. He listened,
I watched my husband. I watched the man who cooked breakfast a minute ago vanjsh. The muscles in his back turned to stone. The gray in his eyes darkened into a storm. The warlord woke up.
“When?’ Tristan asked. His voice sounded like cracked ice.
He listened for another ten seconds.
“Burn the servers. Do not go back to your apartment. Meet at the secondary extraction point,’ Tristan commanded. He ended the call.
He looked at me. The peace was dead. The silence in the room felt heavy, suffocating, and wrong.
“What happened?” I asked. I set my coffee mug down. My hands started to shake.
r
“The FBI, Tristan stated. He walked toward me. “They just breached the Johnston Group headquarters. Three hundred agents. They locked down the
building.
“The FBI?” I repeated. The words made zero sense. “Julian is the criminal. We handed them the ledger. We gave them the proof. The authorities arrested
him.
Julian did not fall into your trap, Mina, Tristan said. He grabbed my shoulders. His grip was tight, grounding me. ‘Julian built a trap under yours The ledger you exposed on the stage. The dark money accounts. The offshore transfers. Someone altered the metadata before you plugged it into the mainframe.”
My chest tightened. The air left my lungs. “Altered it how?”
Ricardo says the metadata now points back to your personal IP addresses. Your private terminals. The ghost accounts do not show Julian’s signature

The realization hit me like a physical blow. Julian knew I would find the ledger. He knew I would use it against him in public. He wanted me to present it. He wanted me to hand the weapon the federal government.
Julian’s arrest was a smokescreen. It was a dead-man’s switch.
“He framed me for the syndicate attacks,” I whispered. “He framed me for his own crimes.
“They are not just raiding the headquarters, Tristan said. He released my shoulders. He turned to Diego. “Prep the SUV. Pack the weapons. We leave in two minutes.”
“Where are we going?” Elias asked from the counter. He dropped his toy. His small face crunched in confusion.
“We are going on a trip, buddy,” Tristan told him. He kept his tone measured, hiding the terror. Co put your shoes on. Hurry.”
Elias jumped off the stool and ran toward the hallway.
I stared at the crashing waves outside the window. The sanctuary turned into a cage. The billions of dollars in the Johnston accounts offered zero protection against the full weight of the federal government. We possessed no lawyers to fix this. We possessed no board to manipulate.
Ricardo said the raid was authorized by the top office,” Tristan said. He grabbed a tactical vest from the duffel bag. He threw it over his t-shirt. “Federal Prosecutor Sterling. He signed the warrant himself. He is declaring the entire Johnston Group a criminal enterprise under your command.”
“We have to fight it,” I said. I stepped forward. “We have the original files. We can hire the best defense team in the capital.”
“No,” Tristan countered. He pulled a sidearm from the bag and checked the chamber. The metallic click echoed in the kitchen. “Sterling is not a local judge.
You cannot buy him. You cannot intimidate him. If they catch you, they will put you in a black site. They will take Elias.”
The mention of my son shattered the remaining denial.
The mother bear woke up. The Chairman died.
“We run,’ I stated.
“We run, Tristan agreed. He handed me a heavy, dark jacket. ‘Put this on. Leave your phone. Leave your watch. They can track the chips.
I stripped my smartwatch from my wrist. I threw it onto the marble counter. The device clattered next to the abandoned plate of food.
Diego opened the front door. “Vehicles are prepped, boss. But we have a problem.”
Diego pointed toward the horizon.
I walked to the door. I looked down the long, winding coastal road leading to our isolated cliff. A convoy of black SUVS sped toward the gates Unmarked vehicles. Federal plates. A helicopter chopped through the gray sky overhead, circling the property.
They found us.
The peace was a lie. The war never ended. It just changed the battlefield.
“Tristan,” I said. My voice held a cold, sharp edge.

He fled the slide of his weapon. He stepped up beside me. He looked at the incoming convoy.
“Get Elias, Tristan ordered Diego. “Take the maintenance tunnel to the beach. Take the boat. Do not wait for us.”
‘I am not leaving you,” Diego argued.
“That is an order!’ Tristan barked. The walls shook with the force of his command.
1
Diego flinched. He nodded once, turning and sprinting down the hallway.
Tristan grabbed my hand. His grip bruised my fingers. He pulled me away from the front door. We moved toward the back of the house.
“They want to put a cage around you, Tristan said. He kicked the heavy utility door open. The cold ocean wind hit my face. “They will have to kill me first.”
