Married to the Billionaire Who Betrayed Me novel Chapter 192

Chapter 192 My Father Funded the War

I stepped into the rain. The cold water soaked my hair, I walked toward the edge of the brick wall. peered around the corner.

A single cargo ship sat at the dock. A small crew moved wooden crates down a ramp. The men worked in silence. They moved with military precision. This was Silas’s ghost shipment. Contraband entering my city.

I scanned the docks. I looked for Tristan’s dark jacket. I looked for the ghost vehicle he took from the garage.

Nothing.

He was not here.

My stomach dropped. The cold rain felt like ice against my skin. He lied. He used the deal with Silas as a cover. He sent the security teams away, creating a blind spot in our own territory, and he used that blind spot to vanish.

A faint noise caught my attention. A metallic scrape.

I turned my head. A black sedan sat parked near a rusted shipping container, fifty yards away from the active dock. The engine was off. The windows were

tinted dark.

I walked toward the car. I kept my footsteps light. I hugged the shadows of the stacked containers.

I reached the trunk of the sedan. The rain masked the sound of my approach. I moved to the driver’s side window. I wiped the wet glass with my sleeve and

looked inside.

The car was empty.

I stepped back. A heavy, iron grip clamped over my mouth.

A strong arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me backward against a solid chest. I thrashed. I threw my elbow backward, aiming for ribs. My attacker blocked the strike with brutal efficiency. He twisted my arm, pinning it against my spine.

‘Stop fighting,’ a rough voice whispered in my ear.

I froze. I knew the voice. I knew the scent of the man holding me. Rain and clean cotton.

Tristan.

He released my mouth. He turned me around to face him. He backed me against the cold metal of the shipping container. His chest heaved. The dark storm in his gray eyes was wild, untamed, and terrifying.

“What are you doing here?” Tristan demanded. He kept his hands on my shoulders, pinning me in place.

‘I came to see your meeting with Silas, I shot back. I shoved his chest. He did not move. “You lied to me. Silas is not here.”

“Silas is in Paris, Tristan bit out. ‘He sent his men to move the cargo. I never planned to meet him.”

“Then why are you here?”

Inegiled an alibi.”

The words hung in the rain. An alibi. You need an alibi when you commit a crime. You need an alibi when you cross a line you can never uncross.

“Who did you meet?” I asked. My volte trembled. I hated the sound. I hated the fear bleeding into my tone.

Tristan looked away. His jaw tightened, The muscles in his neck strained.

“Tell me, I ordered. “We swore to share the dirt.”

“You cannot share this,” Tristan said. He looked back at me. The raw, desperate agony in his expression broke my heart. “I met a cleaner, Mina. A man who

specializes in making problems disappear.”

“A hitman. The word tasted foul.

“We needed the proxy alive,” I argued. “We needed a name to trace the money back to Thomas Whitmore. If you kill the proxy, the trail goes cold.”

“I did not put a hit on the proxy,” Tristan confessed. The rain soaked his shirt, plastering the fabric to his skin. “I put a hit on Oliver Pembroke.”

I stared at him. The shock paralyzed my lungs.

“Pembroke is the public face,” I said. I struggled to form a coherent thought. “He is a puppet. Killing him does not stop the syndicate.”

“It stops the message, Tristan growled. His hands gripped my shoulders tighter. “Pembroke stood in a ballroom and threatened our son. He looked you in the eye and promised violence. I will not let a man speak my child’s name as a threat and live to see the sunrise. The syndicate will learn we do not play

games.”

‘You took my choice away,” I whispered.

The realization shattered the foundation we spent the last six months building. The trust. The equality. The vow we made in the cathedral. It all crumbled

under the weight of his primal instinct to protect.

‘I kept your hands clean,’ Tristan said. He framed my face with his hands. His thumbs brushed the wet strands of hair from my cheeks. “You are the Chairman. You are the mother. You cannot order an assassination. The guilt would destroy you. I took the burden. Let me carry the sin.”

“I did not ask you to carry it!’ I screamed. I slapped his hands away. “I asked you to stand beside me! You promised equal power! You promised no shadow

deals!”

ľ

“They threatened Elias!” Tristan roared back. “There are no rules when it comes to his life!”

“There are our rules!” I shoved his chest again. He stumbled back a single step. “If you make decisions in the dark, you are managing my life again. You are deciding what I can handle. You are treating me like a fragile piece of glass that needs to be kept in a box!”

Tristan stared at me. The rain washed over us, a cold, miserable flood, He saw the betrayal in my eyes. He saw the crack in our marriage, splitting wide

open.

‘I did it to protect you,’ he pleaded. The titan vanished, leaving a desperate, broken man.

“You did it to protect yourself,” I corrected. My voice turned to ice. The Chairman returned, burying the wounded wife beneath layers of steel. ‘You could not handle the feeling of helplessness. You needed control. You bought a murder to cure your own panic.”

Twalked past him. I headed-back toward the alley where Marcus waited.

I stopped. I did not turn around.

“Call your cleaner,’ I said to the dark shipping yard. Tell him the contract is canceled. If Oliver Pembroke dies tonight, do not bother coming back to the penthouse.”
