However, in her eyes, since this uncle had walked away for over twenty years, he should have just stayed gone.
What was the point of dragging his new wife and kid back now?
He was doing nothing but humiliating Aunt Eleanor!
Scumbag!
Nora mentally passed judgment on the ridiculous soap opera playing out in front of her, fully aware that her bias was heavily leaning toward Eleanor.
"Stop putting on that pathetic act in my house!"
Beatrice shot a glacial glare at Arthur. "I only acknowledge Eleanor as my daughter-in-law, and Tiffany is my only granddaughter. As for these nobodies you dragged in off the street..."
"They will never step foot into the Lancaster family!"
The woman standing beside Arthur visibly paled. She shrank back, opening her mouth to speak, but when she met Beatrice's weathered, terrifyingly sharp eyes, she swallowed her words immediately.
"Mother..." Arthur instinctively tried to speak, but Beatrice didn't give him the chance.
She turned her head toward Hudson. "Hudson, since you are the head of the Lancaster family now, I am leaving this matter in your hands. I am too old to waste my energy on these people. I'd like to live a few more years in peace."
With that, she gripped the armrests of her chair and slowly stood up. Eleanor immediately stepped forward to support her arm. Tiffany shot a venomous glare at Arthur and his new family before quickly following her grandmother out.
The sound of their footsteps faded until the soft click of a door closing echoed from the second floor.
The living room fell completely silent, leaving only Hudson, Nora, Arthur, and his companions.
"Arthur, get up. As the younger generation, it's not my place to have you kneeling in front of me."
The moment the words left his mouth, the woman and the young man rushed forward, grabbing Arthur by the arms to haul him to his feet.
Perhaps because he had been kneeling for so long, Arthur swayed unsteadily, prompting the two to quickly guide him to a nearby sofa.
"Arthur, are you alright?" The woman's eyes reddened before she even finished her sentence, playing the part of a fragile, delicate flower perfectly.
Nora instinctively looked away.
That kind of helpless, damsel-in-distress act worked when a girl was in her twenties.
But for a woman who, despite maintaining herself well, was clearly in her forties, the routine felt incredibly out of place.
It just made Nora deeply uncomfortable.
Arthur patted the woman's hand reassuringly. "Don't worry, I'm fine. My legs just fell asleep."
