By the time Hudson and Nora arrived, the hall was already packed.
Nora wore a pale blue gown, a fox fur shawl draped over her shoulders. Her long hair was loosely pinned back, with a few stray strands framing her face, highlighting her radiant neck.
Hudson stood by her side in a sharp, dark gray suit. His posture was relaxed, one hand resting lightly on the small of her back.
Their entrance caused an immediate ripple of commotion through the crowd.
Ever since Vanguard Microchips had launched its successful design, Hudson's name was renowned throughout the tech and business circles.
Many attendees saw this as a golden opportunity to network with the titan from San Francisco. The heavyweights immediately moved in to greet him, while those with less clout hovered nearby, eagerly waiting for their moment.
The entire banquet hall buzzed with undercurrents of ambition.
"You're unbelievable. Why didn't you just wait until the party was over to show up?" Finnian said, exasperated. The gala would have started much earlier if they hadn't been waiting for him.
Hudson, of course, wasn't about to admit they had been ready to leave an hour ago until he had cornered Nora for a kiss.
Things had spiraled out of control. He had ended the skirmish as quickly as he could; otherwise, an hour wouldn't have been nearly enough time.
Thinking of this, Hudson's lips curved upward. "Something unexpected came up. We ran late."
Vincent Vaughn clicked his tongue, snagged a glass of wine from a passing waiter, and held it out. "Since you're late, you owe us three drinks as a penalty."
Hudson didn't take it. Instead, he pulled Nora a little closer. "Sorry. My wife doesn't let me drink."
Vincent was speechless.
Finnian simply stared.
If they weren't in a public setting, they would have happily ganged up on the man for flaunting his affection so shamelessly.
The group chatted casually for a while, and the topic naturally drifted back to microchips.
Vincent slouched on a sofa, lazily swirling his glass. He narrowed his striking eyes, his tone laced with absolute grit. "You're way too intense, Hudson. The moment your chip specs went live, my engineering team had to pull all-nighters for two straight weeks. I had to stay with them. Look, I've got dark circles now!"
Hudson leaned back, crossing his long legs, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Didn't I tell you earlier? I'm open to collaborating, but if you try to sabotage me with those underhanded tactics, you'll suffer the consequences. You had it coming."
Vincent rolled his eyes, tipped his head back, and downed his drink in one gulp.
Nearby, Henry Fairchild waved at Finnian, signaling him over.
Finnian gave a slight nod. "You guys chat. My dad needs me for something. I'll be right back."
"Sure, go ahead. Don't worry about us."
Finnian patted Vincent on the shoulder and walked away.
