Hudson frowned at Cade. Even from several feet away, the reeking stench of cheap alcohol was overwhelming.
It was no wonder Elias was willing to trade a life-saving panacea like The Ivory Pill. The Whitman family's only heir was utterly useless.
The second Elias died, the family would surely be destroyed.
"I'm talking to you!" Cade yelled, the alcohol fueling his false bravery. "Are you fucking deaf?"
Before the words completely left his mouth, a powerful hand grabbed him by the collar. Cade was yanked forward, and before he could react, his face was slammed directly into a large decorative water vat near the door.
Splash!
Water went flying. Cade thrashed wildly like a drowning chicken, his legs kicking the air. His soaked mink coat dragged him down like a sack of bricks.
Hearing the commotion, the elderly butler rushed over. Seeing his young master being drowned in the vat, the color drained from his face. He dropped to his knees, pleading desperately.
"Mr. Lancaster! Please, have mercy! The young master is drunk and doesn't know any better! Please spare him..."
Hudson glanced down coldly at the butler and casually lifted a finger.
Archer immediately let go.
Cade slumped over the edge of the vat and collapsed onto the stone pavement like a drowned rat. He gasped for air, his wet hair plastered to his face, water dripping down his chin, mixing with snot and tears in a pathetic display.
"You son of a bitch!" he screamed, a twisted, humiliating rage burning in his eyes. He scrambled to his feet, grabbed a heavy iron bar used to prop the doors open, and swung wildly at Hudson.
Hudson didn't even blink. He smoothly dodged the swing and delivered a brutal kick square to Cade's chest.
Cade flew backward, crashing hard into the edge of the water vat. The heavy ceramic shattered, and Cade hit the ground as gallons of water poured over him. Jagged pieces of ceramic sliced his cheek and hands, mixing blood with the puddles on the ground.
The butler, pale as a ghost, rushed forward to help him.
"Get off me, you old fool!" Cade screamed, taking his rage out on the servant and kicking him fiercely away.
The butler hit the ground with a painful groan.
He tried to stand, but sharp pain shot through him. Cold sweat broke out on his forehead; he had clearly broken a bone.
Urgent footsteps approached from the inner courtyard. Elias marched out, leaning heavily on his cane. He took in the chaotic scene, his eyes lingering on Cade for a second before turning to Hudson. "A disgrace to my family. I apologize you had to witness this. I will discipline this ungrateful wretch properly. I won't keep you any longer."
Hudson nodded and walked out with Archer and Liam.
Behind them, Elias's furious voice barked, "Drag this useless animal inside and apply the family punishment!"
Cade's curses echoed from the courtyard, slowly fading as the heavy gates shut.
Only when they reached the car at the end of the alley did Liam finally exhale. "The Whitman family... is completely doomed."
With a useless heir and an aging patriarch with only a few years left, the family wouldn't just lose its elite status—they would be wiped off the map.
Hudson crossed his long legs and stared out the window. He didn't care about their fate.
He just wanted to make a trade. Thirty years of protection in exchange for The Ivory Pill. It was a bargain.
