Xavier Reed stared blankly out the window from his seat at the back of the classroom when Penelope Reed's call came through.

He had been miserable for days.

His parents' divorce was a devastating blow for a teenager.

To make matters worse, his older sister, Jade Reed, had been arrested for defaming Nora and was currently sitting in a detention center awaiting trial.

His family had completely fallen apart.

He rubbed the back of his neck, about to bury his face in his arms when his phone buzzed.

Seeing the caller ID, he quickly answered. "Mom?"

A muffled sob came through the receiver, making Xavier's heart clench.

"Mom? What's wrong?"

Penelope's voice finally came through, thick with tears. "Xavi... help me..."

Xavier straightened his posture. "Mom, what happened?"

"Your father... he forced me out with nothing in the divorce. I don't even have money for food or a place to stay. Xavi, I'm completely out of options."

Xavier swallowed hard, his grip tightening on the phone. "Don't panic. I have some cash. I'll transfer it to you."

"Where did you get money?"

"Just my allowance and savings."

As he spoke, he opened his banking app.

He operated it quickly, typing in the amount while on the call. With a few taps, the transfer was successful.

"I sent it. Check it. It's not a lot, but it should cover your immediate needs."

"Xavi... you're the only one who cares about me... I raised a good son..."

Xavier stayed silent for a moment. "Mom, what are you going to do now?"

"What can I do? You're too young to help. I have to go find Nora..."

She let out a heavy sigh. "But she refuses to see me. I've gone over several times, and she won't even let me in the door, let alone listen to a word I say..."

Xavier frowned upon hearing this. "Mom, I told you before to treat her better. She's your daughter, you can't keep hurting her like that."

Penelope stayed silent for a moment. Her voice softened, taking on a pleading tone. "I know I was wrong in the past. Xavi, could you do me a favor? Ask her out so I can apologize..."

Xavier hesitated. "But she..."

"Xavi, I'm begging you. Please?"

He was young, and with his mother begging him like that, he couldn't refuse. "Alright."

Relieved, Penelope quickly added, "Just tell her you want to meet. You know her temper. If she knows I'm coming, she definitely won't show up."

Xavier nodded slowly. "Okay, I'll try."

Nora looked up to see Hudson Lancaster leaning against the doorframe, his dark eyes brimming with amusement.

"What are you doing here?" She stood up, pleasantly surprised.

"Picking up my wife from work..."

"Olive is here. You didn't have to make the trip."

"I missed you..."

"...Are you naturally this sweet today?"

"Why don't you taste and find out?" Hudson flashed a wicked grin, wrapping an arm around her waist and leaning in for a kiss.

Caught off guard, Nora pressed her hands against his chest. "Stop it, we're at the office."

He chuckled softly, lacing his fingers with hers. "We'll save it for home, then."

Nora shot him a warning glare, though the tips of her ears flushed a pretty shade of pink.
