Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 497

Following her gaze, Vincent looked down at his left arm. The sleeve of his trench coat was torn, and blood was trickling down his wrist, blooming into a dark stain on the premium leather seat.

"Just a graze." He didn't even flinch. Snagging a handful of tissues, he pressed them against the wound, his eyes never leaving the rearview mirror.

"Two cars." His voice was eerily calm. "They're right on our tail."

Nora threw a panicked look over her shoulder.

Through the darkness, two black sedans were tearing after them. Their blinding headlights pierced the gloom, the roar of their engines audible even through the reinforced glass.

"Are they crazy?" Nora's voice pitched high with terror. "We're in the middle of the city!"

Vincent shot her a sidelong glance, a dangerous half-smile playing on his lips. "Mrs. Lancaster, there are far more lunatics in this world than you think."

With a vicious yank of the steering wheel, he threw the massive car down a narrow alleyway without warning. The tires shrieked against the asphalt.

The violent turn tossed Nora hard against the door panel. She instinctively covered her head and glared at him. "Slow down!"

"Slow down?" Vincent checked the rearview mirror, his eyes narrowing to dangerous slits. "You want to get shot to pieces?"

Nora bit her lip and stayed quiet.

The car tore through the alley with terrifying speed, like a scene ripped straight from an action movie. The side mirrors practically scraped the brick walls on either side.

In the reflection, the blazing headlights of their pursuers reappeared at the entrance of the alley.

"Damn it," Vincent muttered, slamming the gas pedal and bursting onto the main avenue, merging violently into traffic.

Dizzy from being thrown around, Nora gripped the handle above her door. "This is all your fault. Nothing good ever happens when you're around!"

Vincent let out a dark chuckle, meeting her eyes in the mirror. "That's hardly fair. If you want to point fingers, blame your husband."

The pursuing cars mirrored their every move. One constantly tried to flank them, the screech of burning rubber ringing out endlessly.

Nora clutched her seatbelt, her knuckles white and her jaw locked tight.

She cast a terrified glance at the driver's seat. Vincent was driving one-handed, his other hand resting on the gear shift. Astonishingly, a thrill of adrenaline actually danced across his sharp features.

He was an absolute psycho!

Nora couldn't hold back anymore. "We're literally being hunted down, and you're smiling?"

Vincent glanced at her, the wind howling through the cracked window and whipping his hair back. "I've had hits on me since I was a kid. This is just another Tuesday."

"...Just how many people have you pissed off?"
