Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 493

Nora shook her head, forcing those chaotic thoughts out of her mind.

Whatever. He was probably just genuinely busy.

The Lancaster Group's Chicago Branch was massive. She had looked up the address beforehand—it was right in the heart of Chicago's most bustling commercial district.

Maybe she should go try her luck later?

What if she actually managed to see him?

The more she thought about it, the more restless she became. She immediately went next door and knocked on Olive's door.

Olive was in the middle of a mobile game. As soon as the door opened, Nora heard a loud gaming sound effect blast from her phone.

"I know a really great restaurant, you..."

Before Nora could even finish, Olive's eyes lit up. "Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!"

"..."

However, as Olive drove along the GPS route Nora had provided, she started feeling more and more uneasy.

It wasn't until she saw the massive 'Lancaster Group' sign looming ahead that she finally realized what was happening...

Crap!

She had fallen for Nora's culinary bait!

Olive was panicking internally. The moment they stepped out of the car, she frantically fired off a text to Arthur.

[Artie! Disaster! She's at the branch office! What do we do?!]

[Do NOT let her enter the building!]

[Copy that!]

Olive treated the situation like a life-or-death mission, terrified that Nora would demand to go inside and look for Mr. Lancaster.

But even after they had eaten their fill, Nora hadn't brought it up once. Instead, throughout the meal, her gaze kept drifting out the window.

The restaurant they were at happened to be right across the street from the Lancaster Group, offering a perfect, unobstructed view of the branch's main entrance.

The two of them strolled slowly down the commercial district's pedestrian path.

Autumn in Chicago was much crisper than in San Francisco. Half-yellow, half-green leaves clung to the sycamore branches, and the streetlights stretched their shadows long and short against the pavement.

Nora wasn't walking fast, her gaze sweeping casually over the storefront windows. Suddenly, she stopped in front of a massive, floor-to-ceiling glass panel.

Across the street stood the Vaughn Corporation headquarters. Compared to the Lancaster Group's understated elegance, the Vaughn building was undeniably ostentatious. Its entire exterior was covered in gold-tinted glass, stabbing into the night sky like a colossal gold bar.

Several black sedans were parked in the plaza in front of the building. The car doors were open, and a few people were walking down the grand steps.

Nora's gaze had just been drifting aimlessly, but it sharpened the moment she recognized one of the faces.

Liana Fairchild.

She was wearing a pastel-yellow Chanel suit and linking arms with a middle-aged man. She had her head tilted up, smiling brightly as she chatted with him.

The middle-aged man was tall, with a ramrod-straight posture, wearing a dark gray tailored suit. Though there was a touch of silver at his temples, his features were deeply defined, and his brow carried an innate, intimidating authority.

It was none other than the current patriarch of the Fairchild family, Henry Fairchild.
