"...Nothing else to ask."
"Are you upset?"
"No."
"Really?"
"..."
Nora simply turned her head to glare at him. "Do you still like her?"
Hudson chuckled softly. "Yes. I do."
A suffocating wave of sour jealousy hit Nora's chest.
She turned her head away completely, refusing to utter another word.
Jerk!
He really did have an unforgettable first love!
Her heart ached with a sudden, overwhelming sense of regret that she hadn't been a part of Hudson's past.
For twenty-nine years of his life, she hadn't existed to him.
There was only that girl he secretly loved.
Hudson laughed softly. He was just about to say something when the room suddenly plunged into absolute silence.
He instinctively touched his ear—still, he couldn't hear a single thing.
Damn it...
What terrible timing.
Hudson closed his eyes, a bitter expression washing over his face, and pulled Nora tighter into his embrace.
Nora let out an uncomfortable groan and grumbled, "You're holding me too tight..."
But there was no response from behind her.
Nora frowned in confusion and instinctively struggled a little. "Hudson..."
Right at that moment, Hudson suddenly grabbed his phone from the nightstand and got out of bed. "There's an emergency at the company. I need to go handle it."
"I've lost my hearing. I'm heading over to your place now. Get things ready."
"What?"
Liam snapped fully awake in an instant. He slapped the light switch on the wall. "Alright, I'll immediately..."
He stopped mid-sentence, realizing Hudson couldn't hear him anyway. Before he could process it fully, the line went dead.
Soon enough, Hudson and Arthur arrived at Liam's apartment.
As soon as they walked in, they saw the coffee table covered in various medical instruments.
"Liam, what is going on with Mr. Lancaster? Why does every attack now strip his senses?" Arthur asked grimly, his brows tightly knitted.
Liam's expression was equally dark. He motioned for Hudson to sit on the couch, then took out his sterile lancets and gestured to him. Hudson understood and nodded.
Liam looked down to sterilize the needles, his voice turning hoarse. "My previous estimate of three months might have been overly optimistic..."
A layer of profound, unshakeable sorrow clouded his eyes.
At this rate, Mr. Lancaster wouldn't even make it to winter...
