Just a few words were enough. The point was made.
None of them were fools.
The implications of Henry Fairchild's personal pen ending up in Vincent's hands were glaringly obvious.
Vincent couldn't have gotten that pen without Henry's explicit approval.
And Vincent wouldn't have flashed it in front of them if the two hadn't struck some kind of secret deal.
Finnian pressed his lips together in grim silence.
Truth be told, the moment Vincent pulled out the pen, he already knew exactly what was happening.
He had finally managed to forge an alliance with Hudson and Jude to counter the Vaughn Family's tech embargo.
But his own father had just completely undermined him, practically throwing him to the wolves.
"Looks like your word doesn't carry much weight in the Fairchild family, does it?"
Hudson's tone was blunt, bordering on cruel.
Jude frowned as he listened.
He had worked so hard to get these two to cooperate, and now it was falling apart right before his eyes.
If these two kept clashing like this, an alliance would be impossible—they'd be lucky not to end up as bitter enemies.
He rubbed his temples, just about to jump in and smooth things over, when Finnian spoke up in a cold, even tone. "Vincent fights dirty, but he has good instincts. He knows who holds the real power in the Fairchild family, so he bypassed me and went straight to my father... I have nothing to say about that."
"You don't." Hudson let out a low chuckle. "But your father does."
"What do you mean?"
"What is Henry Fairchild trying to get out of a partnership with Vincent? Money? The Fairchilds have plenty. Tech? Vincent can provide it, but so can the Lancasters and the Winslows."
Hudson leaned back in his chair, a smirk playing on his lips. "Why don't you go home and ask your father what he's really after?"
Finnian frowned, his expression darkening even further.
The room fell into an uneasy silence.
He wouldn't yield.
But if Vincent wanted Liana Fairchild...
Jude wouldn't necessarily stand in the way of a happy union.
By the end of the meal, Finnian and Jude were both lost in their own heavy thoughts, barely tasting their food.
Hudson, on the other hand, was in great spirits. He enthusiastically piled food onto Nora's plate until it resembled a small mountain.
"That's enough, that's enough, I can't eat another bite." Nora quickly shielded her bowl.
"Eat more. We have a flight this afternoon. Finnian might be useless, but his taste in chefs isn't half bad. Try this..." Hudson said, dropping another piece of BBQ rib into her bowl, completely ignoring the scowling man sitting next to them.
"Is it good? If you like it, I'll poach the chef for you..."
Nora was speechless.
Talking like that... wasn't he afraid of getting punched?
