Marcus frowned. "She's my... stepdaughter. She should grant a waiver, right?"

"Nora." Marcus cleared his throat, softening his tone. "I know what Jade did this morning. She was just momentarily confused. Can you do me a favor and let this go?"

"Marcus, when she put up those Slanderous Posters, she didn't plan on letting me go."

Marcus choked, his face darkening.

"Nora, Jade was in the wrong, but you pushed her too far. Think about it. You took her identity, took her place. How could she feel good about it?"

"You can check with the Bureau of Vital Records if you don't believe me."

Marcus pursed his lips. "I don't need to check. I saw the certificate Jade has. It clearly states Hudson and Jade's names in black and white. It can't be wrong!"

But as he finished speaking, the interrogation room door opened.

An officer walked out holding a transparent evidence bag with the certified copy of that marriage certificate.

"Mr. Reed, we verified this certificate. It's forged. Where did this document come from?"

Marcus froze as if struck by lightning.

"Forged? How is that possible?"
