Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 385

Outside the hospital.

Ginger stepped out of the car, clutching her lower back, her steps slightly unsteady.

When she claimed her stomach hurt at the estate, it had initially been a mere excuse to drag Silas away from the explosive confrontation. But shortly after leaving the property, she began to experience genuine, dull cramps.

Fortunately, Silas had been genuinely concerned for the baby and had rushed straight to the hospital.

After registering, Silas stood anxiously by her side, his brows furrowed. "How's your stomach? Is it still hurting?"

Seeing his anxious expression, the corners of Ginger's mouth turned up.

After all these years, this was the first time she had ever seen this look on his face.

He was completely different from the man who used to lash out at her over the slightest provocation.

Ginger's smile widened, reveling in the fact that her status had finally been cemented by the child she carried.

Yesterday, when Beatrice mentioned that Nora might be pregnant, Ginger's heart had skipped a beat. She had terrified herself into thinking the drugs she bought were duds or that the dealer had scammed her.

That was why she used the family dinner to test the waters.

Now that she knew Nora wasn't pregnant.

She was practically overjoyed.

The drugs had worked flawlessly.

Otherwise, given Hudson's desperation for an heir, he would have made sure Nora got pregnant as soon as possible.

But Nora had zero news.

Which meant she was barren for life!

Just as Ginger was basking in her twisted victory, her name was called.

Silas quickly helped her up and walked her toward the ultrasound room.

Right then, his phone buzzed in his pocket.

He glanced at the caller ID and frowned. "Do you mind going in first? I need to take this."

"Sure, go ahead."

...

"Have you eaten anything unusual recently?"

Ginger was taken aback. "No, I've been very careful with my diet since I got pregnant. I only eat what my nutritionist recommends..."

The doctor remained silent, moving the wand a few more times, her frown deepening.

Ginger's heart began to sink rapidly.

"Doctor, what is it? Is there something wrong with the baby?"

Instead of answering, the doctor removed the wand and handed Ginger a tissue.

"You can sit up now."

Ginger scrambled to sit up, hastily wiping the gel off her stomach. "Doctor, what's going on? Is my baby okay?"

The doctor hesitated for a couple of seconds before pressing her lips together. "The baby's heartbeat seems to have stopped."

Ginger froze on the table, refusing to believe her own ears. "That's impossible... You must be mistaken. The baby was perfectly fine. How could the heartbeat just stop?"

The doctor turned the monitor toward her, pointing at a small, stationary dot. "This is the fetal heart. Under normal circumstances, there should be a regular, rhythmic pulsation here. But right now, it is completely still."
