Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 342

Jade wrenched her arm free, completely abandoning all composure as her voice shrilled through the air. "Dad, don't try to stop me! I can't take this anymore! I am going to expose the truth today!"

In an instant, a dead silence fell over the ballroom.

Everyone froze, dropping their conversations as every pair of eyes locked onto the father and daughter.

Marcus had been riding a massive wave of popularity recently. Given his status as Mr. Lancaster's supposed father-in-law, many people had gone out of their way to curry favor with him.

Since he had been eagerly shoving his way into high society circles, plenty of the guests recognized him.

When Jade shrieked 'Dad,' the crowd immediately assumed she was his other daughter.

Marcus's face went completely ashen. He instinctively lunged to cover Jade's mouth.

Jade expertly dodged his hand and screamed, "I am the real wife of Mr. Lancaster!"

She pointed viciously toward Nora, her voice echoing shrilly. "She stole my name! She took my place and stole my husband! I am The True Jade Reed!"

The moment the words left her mouth, a terrifying silence consumed the hall.

It was over!

Marcus's face turned a sickening shade of grey, consumed by a regret so deep he felt physically sick.

He never should have brought her!

"Shut your mouth!"

But Jade was far too intoxicated by her own jealousy to listen. She merely raised her voice louder. "Dad, why should I shut up? Have I said a single lie? My name is on the marriage certificate! Nora is a fraud and a shameless homewrecker!"

The ballroom was terrifyingly quiet.

No one dared to breathe a word.

Everyone present was a powerhouse in San Francisco; what kind of drama hadn't they seen before?

But who on earth would dare openly watch the Lancaster family's dirty laundry unfold?

The fact that she was an imposter bride was true, and Jade's name being on the marriage certificate was also true. These facts couldn't withstand any scrutiny; a single investigation would expose everything.

But even so, she had zero intention of backing down.

She had already made up her mind. Even if Mrs. Lancaster Sr. was furious, even if everyone in the room pointed at her and cursed her as an imposter, she would never give Hudson up.

It was rare enough for her to fall this deeply in love with someone. There was absolutely no way she was handing him over to someone else.

But before she could even open her mouth to defend herself, Hudson suddenly let out a low, amused laugh.

The sound wasn't loud, but it possessed a commanding weight that instantly suffocated the chaotic whispers filling the ballroom.

He leaned back in his chair, lazily crossing one long leg over the other. He twirled a half-empty wine glass in his hand, looking utterly relaxed and indolent.

"Are you trying to tell me I married the wrong wife?"

He lazily lifted his eyelids, a lethal, icy gleam flashing through his dark eyes. "Why wasn't I aware of this?"
