Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 283

Arthur felt a sickening jolt in his chest.

He had instructed Olive to protect Mrs. Lancaster from the shadows.

But with Olive's reckless, impatient nature, staying hidden was never going to work out.

This was entirely his failure.

"Boss, I'll have Olive shadow her immediately."

"If there is another slip-up, you and Olive will answer to me with your lives!"

"Yes, Boss."

Hudson took a deep breath, fighting to wrestle his raging temper back under control. His face remained carved from ice. "Pull the security footage of Ginger's meeting with Nora and send it to me right now."

"Right away."

Ending the call, Hudson pinched the bridge of his nose.

He had barely set foot outside of San Francisco, and the wolves were already circling his wife.

He was beginning to regret his decision.

He regretted leaving her side.

...

Meanwhile, Nora stared at her phone long after the call ended, her fingers tracing the smooth edge of the screen.

He hadn't even been gone a day, and she was already struggling to adjust.

Setting the phone face down, she leaned back and took a deep breath.

God, she missed him so much.

The thought startled her. A flush crept up her neck, and she hurriedly grabbed her iced coffee, downing a large gulp to cool the sudden, inexplicable heat rushing through her veins.

This wouldn't do.

She needed to focus on her work.

Rolling up her sleeves, she opened the first major project proposal she had received since taking over as Music Director.

Star Entertainment was launching an original music competition show, focusing entirely on raw talent, from songwriting to stage performance.

It was her first major campaign, and incidentally, the biggest investment Hudson had made since acquiring the company.

The stakes were astronomical. Everything rode on this.

"No can do. If the Boss finds out I let you drive yourself, he'll literally skin me alive." Olive opened the passenger door. "Get in."

Nora let out a helpless laugh but didn't argue further, sliding into the passenger seat.

Olive drove like a maniac, cutting the thirty-minute commute down to a terrifying twenty minutes before screeching to a halt at Cloudwater Estate.

The living room was completely empty, the eerie silence making Nora feel deeply unsettled.

When Hudson was here, he would usually be sitting on the sofa reading reports, warming up milk for her in the kitchen, or waiting at the bottom of the stairs to welcome her home.

He always made sure he was the very first thing she saw when she walked through the door.

Nora kicked off her heels and sat down at the dining table.

The staff had already prepared dinner—a massive spread of food, hot and perfectly plated.

She picked up her fork but only managed a few bites before her appetite vanished.

"I'll be in the guest room downstairs if you need anything. Just holler," Olive called out, standing by the doorway in a pair of oversized shorts.

"Okay."

Nora headed upstairs, took a long shower, and slipped into a silk nightgown.
