Miriam whirled around and pointed her finger right at Eliza's nose, spit flying as she redirected all her explosive rage onto her own daughter.
"Look at that miserable face of yours! Is this how I raised you? I made you beautiful, I paid for your dance lessons, and for what? You couldn't even keep your man in check!"
"Your husband is sleeping with tramps and knocking them up, and you're just going to gracefully divorce him?"
"You couldn't even squeeze a dime out of them!"
"Are you out of your mind!"
Miriam's insults grew increasingly vile. "If you want a divorce, fine! The Roths need to pay us a million dollars first! If they can't cough it up, this divorce isn't happening!"
Then she turned her blazing eyes onto Eleanor. "So you're Zander's mother? Perfect. Let me make this clear today. Your son cheated and knocked someone up. Your family owes my daughter compensation! Otherwise, I'll never let this go. I don't care how rich you are, I've got nothing to lose!"
Eleanor's face was livid. Trembling violently, she snapped, "You lunatic! You thug! I'm going to sue you!"
Miriam rolled up her sleeves. "Go ahead! Take us to court! Let the judge see who's really in the wrong."
"Cheating and getting someone pregnant, and you act like you have the moral high ground! You sicken me!"
"Trash breeds trash! You disgusting mistress!"
Miriam shot another venomous glare at Eliza, rolling her eyes in disgust. "How did I give birth to something so useless!"
Eliza stood completely isolated in the center of the crowd.
Her mother's horrific verbal abuse echoed endlessly in her ears.
In that chaotic lobby, everyone else seemed to have a clear agenda. Only she felt like an expendable joke, stripped naked and thrown out under the scorching sun for the public to judge and mock.
"Make way! Make way! Security! Security is coming!"
Just as the absurd spectacle threatened to spiral into an even more severe brawl, the hospital's security team finally forced a path through the dense crowd.
