"You can drop the act, and you can stop using the Roth family to pressure me," Eliza said, the corners of her mouth twitching in a humorless smile.
"I'm going to make this crystal clear right now: I'm divorcing him."
Miriam's wailing stopped instantly.
"Wh... what did you say?" Miriam stammered, a wild array of expressions flashing across her face.
Then came the explosive fury. "Divorce? Eliza, are you out of your mind? Zander is perfect! The Roths have money and power; a fraction of their wealth is enough to feed us for a lifetime!"
"Zander has a great temper, he's handsome, and he caters to your every whim. You couldn't find a better son-in-law if you tried, and you want to divorce him?"
"Are you seeing another man? You shameless wretch!"
Hearing her mother obsess over the Roth family and their money with every breath, a cold sneer formed in Eliza's eyes.
A great temper? Caters to her every whim?
Right. In their eyes, any man who could bankroll Miles was the absolute perfect husband.
"Heh, then let me break it to you: your perfect son-in-law is about to marry another woman. Did you know that?"
Seeing her mother turn ashen, as if struck by lightning, Eliza actually felt a surge of vindictive satisfaction.
Does it hurt?
Are you devastated?
Good.
The humiliation she had endured from Zander over the years, the agony of losing her child—all of it hurt thousands of times more than what they were feeling right now!
"Impossible... That's impossible..." Miriam muttered, collapsing onto the hospital bed in shock.
"I've already deposited Dad's medical fees into the hospital's account. From now on, any money I give will go straight to the hospital."
"I'm saving Dad because I want to be a good daughter."
Eliza delivered her verdict without even glancing at them, her tone absolute.
