Julian looked at the pure hatred burning in her eyes and did not offer a single word of dissuasion.
He simply gave a firm nod. "Alright. You just keep walking forward, and leave everything else to me."
Eliza was caught off guard by how readily he agreed. She paused for a long moment before saying, "But... I do not have anything to repay you with. However, if there is ever anything you need my help with, I will not hesitate!"
Julian smiled warmly, his gaze deep. "Alright, you said it yourself."
"A promise is a promise."
"And I will hold you to it."
Eliza finished the phrase, nodding solemnly.
Meanwhile, back at the Roth residence.
Zander was drowning in unprecedented agony and self-doubt.
He had started suffering from severe insomnia. Every time he closed his eyes, all he could hear was Eliza's bloodcurdling screams for help, covered in blood.
His doubts about what had happened that year were consuming him.
Zander forced himself to calm down, replaying every tiny detail from the aftermath of the earthquake three years ago.
The more he remembered, the colder his blood ran.
Why was it so perfectly timed that the moment he rushed into the ruins, the load-bearing wall near Yvonne collapsed?
Why, in the midst of such extreme chaos, was Yvonne able to cling so tightly to his waist, sobbing that her legs were broken and she could not move?
Yet, when she was examined at the hospital later, she only had a few scrapes and zero broken bones.
What terrified him the most was the realization that Eliza had been trapped on the opposite side of the debris. How could Yvonne have possibly known Eliza's exact location?
And why had she kept screaming, "It is too dangerous where Eliza is, Zander, save me first, then go find someone to help her"?
These glaring inconsistencies made him increasingly certain that something sinister had happened that day.
Over the past few days, the more he thought about it, the more wrong everything felt.
He even started making frequent mistakes at work. The moment he finally got some time off, he rushed straight home to find Yvonne.
