Julian's hands clenched into tight fists at his sides.
Ice rolled violently in his eyes.
If he had known Zander was a blind idiot...
He never would have stepped aside all those years ago.
Since the man couldn't protect her, he needed to get the hell out of her life permanently.
Julian shot the pathetic couple one last freezing glare before turning on his heel and walking away.
Back at the hotel entrance.
Zander carefully supported Yvonne, looking down at her swollen, bruised face.
While he still felt a pang of pity, it was overshadowed by a complex, suffocating wave of irritation.
His expression darkened, and his tone took on a stern edge. "Yvonne, why did you throw the first slap?"
Yvonne had been fully prepared for his tender comfort, having readied her most delicate tears.
Hit with that sudden reprimand, she froze completely.
She stared at him in utter disbelief!
Tears cascaded down her cheeks as she played the ultimate victim. "Zander, are... are you yelling at me?"
"I'm not yelling at you. I'm trying to be reasonable!" Zander rubbed his temples, a headache throbbing behind his eyes.
"Gwen is a lunatic! If you strike first, you're only going to get yourself hurt! Plus, the cameras caught everything. How does escalating the situation benefit you at all?"
"I didn't care about any of that!" Yvonne suddenly screamed, going full hysterical.
She gripped his sleeve tightly, sobbing out her defense. "I just couldn't stand seeing her bully you! I couldn't stand her pointing her finger at your face and insulting you!"
Crying, she pressed her face against his chest, her voice choking on sobs.
"Who does Gwen think she is? What gives her the right to dictate your life? What gives her the right to treat you like dirt?"
"You're so amazing, Zander! You're so perfect! Why should she get to trample all over you! I couldn't take it! I just wanted to defend you!"
