Left for Dead Came Back for Everything novel Chapter 67

"Didn't you hear Julian just now? Look up and tell me what you see."

Gwen's eyes narrowed dangerously. "When the cops get here, we can pull the footage and let the whole world see exactly who threw the first punch! You started the fight, and now you have the nerve to play the victim? Call them! Let's see who ends up behind bars tonight!"

Yvonne's wailing abruptly cut off!

She shot a guilty glance at the camera, her face draining of all color.

She knew that if they actually went to the station and checked the footage, she would be completely screwed.

Worse, it would ruin her carefully crafted image with the Roth elders.

Realizing the police threat was a dead end, she instantly buried her face in Zander's chest, sobbing hysterically like a fragile, broken doll.

"Zander, my face hurts so much. Am I disfigured? I just couldn't stand seeing them hurt you! What did I do wrong!"

Looking down at her, Zander's heart softened.

He patted her back gently, his voice dropping to a comforting murmur. "It's okay, it's okay. I'm here. No one is going to hurt you."

It was a sickening display of twisted devotion that Eliza didn't want to look at for another second!

She used to think Zander was merely misguided.

Now, she realized he was rotten to the very core.

He was so easily manipulated by cheap parlor tricks that it proved his brain was entirely hollow.

"Gwen, let's stop looking at them. It's making my eyes bleed," Eliza said, grabbing the arm of her friend, who clearly wanted to keep throwing punches. "Let's go."

Gwen shot the miserable pair one last deadly glare and scoffed. "Consider yourself lucky I don't have the energy to deal with you right now. But if you ever see us again, you'd better cross the street!"

She threw a mock punch in Yvonne's direction, growling a final threat. "Otherwise, I'll beat you down every single time!"

With that, Gwen looped her arm through Eliza's, and they turned to leave.

When they reached the waiting cab, Eliza stopped and turned to Julian, who had been following quietly behind them.

A flicker of guilt flashed in her eyes. She bowed her head slightly, her tone sincere yet rigidly polite. "Julian, I am so sorry about today. I wasted so much of your time and forced you to watch such a ridiculous farce."

Julian observed the deliberate distance she was putting between them.
