Eliza refused to show any weakness. She quickly fired back a voice note.
"I was on a date with my boyfriend and accidentally hit the wrong button. Relax, I don't have the time to mess with you. It was just a mistake."
Deciding out of sight meant out of mind, she left the group chat immediately after sending the message.
As soon as she exited, a friend request popped up.
With a mocking smirk, she flatly rejected it.
Bright and early the next morning, Eliza headed to the dance academy.
Since crippling her left leg, she could no longer perform on stage, but she couldn't resist wanting to be near it.
After weighing her options, she had settled for an administrative role at an elite international dance academy.
Though technically admin, it involved a fair amount of sales.
The students were all from ultra-wealthy backgrounds, top-tier elites.
Knowing her background as a professional ballerina, the boss had offered her a premium salary, which gave Eliza a much-needed financial cushion.
But right after clocking in today, she immediately sensed something was off.
She grabbed a coworker. "What's going on today?"
"Oh, nothing much. We just got a new dance instructor, and apparently, she's amazing," her coworker smiled. "The boss brought her in on a huge salary. She won runner-up in a bunch of international competitions!"
Eliza's heart skipped a beat, a bad feeling washing over her.
Sure enough, a moment later, Yvonne came walking toward her, practically glowing. "Eliza! I had no idea you worked here."
Seeing that they knew each other, the coworker gave them some space and left.
The moment she was gone, Yvonne extended her hand. "I'm the new instructor. This is so great, Eliza! We get to work together."
Eliza didn't move, just staring at her in silence.
Undeterred, Yvonne smiled and withdrew her hand. "Eliza, I know we might have some misunderstandings. I know you resent me because of the earthquake."
"But I still want to thank you. I never thought I'd stick with dancing, but every time I remember that your leg wasn't treated in time because of me, I feel so guilty."
Her voice softened, her eyes turning rimmed with red.
