The cramp in her left leg had completely stripped her of any ability to struggle. The oxygen in her lungs was depleted, and the water pressure was causing excruciating pain in her eardrums.

Yet, in this final moment of life and death, she forced herself to hold onto a final shred of clarity.

Through the freezing seawater, she locked her eyes firmly onto Zander.

In the gap between the churning waves, their gazes crashed into each other through the icy water.

Eliza's eyes held nothing but extreme agony, alongside an almost pleading, final trace of hope.

It was the only time in her proud life that she had dropped all her defenses.

She seemed to be silently asking: Zander, can you please choose to save me first this time!

Zander had clearly seen the plea in her eyes!

He wanted to reach out and grab her like a madman.

But... the massive wave was already right above them!

If he didn't act immediately, both he and Yvonne, who was clinging onto his ankle in a death grip, would be instantly smashed into the deep sea by the wave, and both would die right there!

Instead, he bent down sharply, grabbed Yvonne firmly by the shoulders, and hoisted the sinking Yvonne violently out of the water!

Yvonne gasped hungrily for fresh air, instantly clinging to a large wooden plank that happened to drift by.

Zander let go of his grip.

He thought he was moving fast.

He thought this was just a tactical maneuver to shake Yvonne off, that as soon as she was safe, he could immediately, instantly turn back and save his Eliza.

But he forgot.

Back then, in the ruins of the earthquake, he had thought the exact same thing.

He thought that as long as he pulled Yvonne out first, he could go back for Eliza and still be in time.
