He stared at this calm, borderline cruel woman before him, feeling as though he were looking at a complete monster.

In his memories, Eliza had always been gentle and kind. She was the type to tear up over a wounded stray cat.

Yet now, she had the nerve to use such a freezing tone to scrutinize the motives of someone who had just been on the brink of death!

"Eliza, I never imagined you could become so heartless!" Zander ground out through gritted teeth, his voice heavy with profound disappointment.

"Yvonne is a living, breathing human being! How could you say something so malicious?"

"Sob..."

Hearing Zander condemn Eliza, a flicker of sheer triumph flashed through Yvonne's eyes, though outwardly, she instantly burst into pathetic, tragic wails.

Crying heavily as if she had suffered an unimaginable injustice, she wailed,

"Eliza... how could you say that about me? I know you hate me, but I never wanted to ruin your relationship... It was Zander... He said you're the only wife he'll ever acknowledge, and he refused to marry me... I felt so hopeless and like such a burden, that's why I took the pills..."

Sobbing, she tilted her head back in a flawless display of heartbroken martyrdom, choking out her pleas. "I was just so foolish, it's all my fault! Eliza, please don't be mad at Zander! I won't have a wedding with him, I don't want anything anymore... He only loves you. As long as you two are happy, I'd gladly shave my head and become a nun..."

Her little speech of feigned sacrifice was a textbook manipulative performance.

The more she acted pitiful and yielding, the more it made Eliza look aggressive and cold-blooded.

"I call bullshit!"

Gwen felt her stomach churn so violently she nearly threw up her dinner from the night before.

Stepping forward, she pointed right at Yvonne and tore into her.

"Have you no shame at all? Did you swallow a script for playing the pathetic victim? Become a nun? Even God would buy a one-way ticket out of town if He saw a black-hearted piece of trash like you coming!"
