Eliza's expression hardened into stone.

She instinctively scanned the area, trying to figure out how the hell he had ended up here.

This was the outskirts of the film base, more than a dozen miles away from her apartment. The city traffic was brutal; it had taken Jane over half an hour just to drive here.

It was no coincidence.

He had followed her.

Eliza quickly pulled her gaze away from Zander and kept walking toward the studios, her face completely blank.

But Zander had already spotted her.

He stepped out from the shadows. His stride shifted from eager to something more subdued, attempting a calculated, "natural" composure.

But the anxiety in his eyes was impossible to hide—the deep crease between his brows was etched in, and the curve of his lips looked agonizingly forced.

"Eliza?"

His voice was much softer than usual, clearly dialed back on purpose.

"What a coincidence. You're in the area too?"

Eliza simply sped up her pace.

Jane had already reached the studio entrance. She glanced back at the man trailing Eliza. She didn't recognize him, but she acutely noticed Eliza's spine instantly rigidify.

"Someone you know?" Jane asked in a low voice.

"Never seen him before." Eliza stuck close to Jane, her face impassive. "Let's go, Jane."

As Eliza swiped her keycard to enter the filming base, Zander noticeably quickened his pace.

"Eliza!"

He reached out toward her—

Jane intercepted him first.

"Sir," Jane said coldly, looking at him through the security turnstiles. "She said she doesn't know you. Security, please escort this man away."

The two women quickly vanished past the entrance, leaving Zander blocked by the guards.

The smile he had painstakingly maintained for barely thirty seconds completely evaporated.

He stood rooted to the spot, lingering for a long time.
