Yvonne immediately took a screenshot.
She stood up, grabbed a measuring tape, and checked her waist in front of the mirror.
Perfect.
Right on the mark.
After a moment's thought, she pulled up the resume she had originally submitted for 'Echoes of the Valley', tweaked a few keywords, and forwarded it to the casting email for 'Fragrant Moon'.
She had also applied for 'Echoes of the Valley', but since stunt doubles didn't show their faces on camera, the Roth family would never find out.
Besides, Zander wasn't giving her any money, and liquidating the jewelry the Roths had gifted her was too much of a hassle. She needed to build a nest egg for herself.
If other people could make money this way, so could she.
Who knows, maybe she would rub shoulders with a big star who could pull some strings for her.
Yvonne tossed her phone onto the sofa, picked up her lukewarm herbal tea, and took a slow sip.
Outside the window, another sycamore leaf drifted to the ground.
Suddenly struck by an idea, she grabbed her phone again and dialed a number.
The moment it connected, Yvonne cleared her throat and instantly forced a tremble into her voice.
"Zander... is this a bad time to talk?"
Through the speaker, the low hum of a car engine answered her.
After a beat, his voice came through, completely devoid of patience.
"Spit it out. What is it?"
"It's just... I'm home alone today. Your mom went out with her friends, the maid went grocery shopping, and I..." Yvonne's voice began to genuinely quiver. "I feel so lonely... Zander, could you come home early and keep me company?"
Silence.
The steady hum of the engine continued.
"Zander?"
"Yvonne," Zander finally said, his voice dropping low, sounding like it was being scraped from the bottom of his throat. "I know things are hard for you."
He paused.
"But I am really stressed right now. Can you please just let me cool off in peace?"
Yvonne gripped her phone so tightly her knuckles went white.
"I... okay. Alright, Zander. I'll let you go."
She ended the call.
And slowly placed her phone down on the glass table.
