Left for Dead Came Back for Everything novel Chapter 146

"Zander is not your personal ATM."

She stared Miles down, enunciating every syllable.

"Why should Zander pay off your gambling debts?"

Miles opened his mouth, but before he could formulate an excuse—

Yvonne's voice rose half an octave. "Zander gave you four thousand dollars last time. Did you use it to pay off your debt?"

She scoffed coldly.

"You didn't pay back a single cent. You gambled it all away, didn't you?"

Miles's face went from pale to flushed and back again.

His lips flapped, but he couldn't push a single word out.

Because she was telling the truth.

The night that four thousand dollars hit his account, he marched straight into a casino. By noon the next day, not only was the four grand gone, but he was another six grand in the hole.

Yvonne turned her head to glare at Miriam.

Her gaze was absolute ice.

"Zander is marrying me."

Her voice grew even louder.

"From now on, the Roth family wants absolutely nothing to do with you."

Those words impaled all three of them simultaneously.

Miriam's face drained of all color.

Zander was going to marry this woman. Once he married her, he'd no longer be the Shaw family's son-in-law.

And if he wasn't their son-in-law, the money would stop.

No more money.

Miriam's legs gave out, and she slid down a nearby pillar to the floor.

She opened her mouth and let out a broken, off-key wail:

"Oh, my miserable life—"

Miles stood frozen, his mouth hanging open, utterly awkward.

He looked at Yvonne, then at Zander, his brain turning to mush. He was completely broke.

As for Zander—

When he heard the words "nothing to do with you," his heart sank heavily in his chest.
