By the time Zander dragged his exhausted body through the front doors of the Roth estate, a chorus of laughter was already ringing out from the living room.
A small team of elegantly dressed bridal designers was clustered in the center of the room. One was currently kneeling on the floor, measuring Yvonne's waist.
Another was sitting next to Eleanor, flipping through a fabric swatch book and explaining the materials.
The sofa was covered in tulle samples, and several half-finished cups of herbal tea and delicate pastries cluttered the coffee table.
The entire house radiated a festive energy, like it was a holiday.
But that joy had absolutely nothing to do with him.
"Leave a little extra room around the waist," Eleanor instructed the designer affectionately as she stood beside Yvonne, reaching out to stroke Yvonne's still-flat stomach.
"That way, it'll still fit beautifully when she starts to show a bit more."
The designer smiled and nodded. "Don't worry, Mrs. Roth. We're designing an adjustable corset bodice. It'll snatch the waist perfectly in the early stages, and when we loosen it later, it won't ruin the silhouette of the dress at all."
"Excellent, excellent." Eleanor nodded in deep satisfaction.
Yvonne leaned sweetly against Eleanor's arm, her other hand resting protectively over her stomach. Her voice was as soft and sugary as melting frosting.
"Mom, that's enough. Just one dress is fine. This is way too much money..."
"Nonsense! My son and daughter-in-law are getting married, what's a few extra dresses!" Eleanor laughed, turning right back to the designer.
"On top of the wedding gowns, I want two everyday dresses made from the softest fabrics you have. She needs to look impeccable when she leaves the house. I will not have people laughing at the Roth family's daughter-in-law."
"Right away. You truly spoil your daughter-in-law, Mrs. Roth."
Right on cue, Yvonne's eyes welled up with tears. She rested her head on Eleanor's shoulder. "Mom, I'm just so happy... After losing my parents when I was little, I thought no one would ever love me this much again..."
"Such a sweet, good girl." Eleanor pulled her into a hug, her own eyes glistening.
"Zander! You're home!"
Yvonne noticed Zander first, straightening up from Eleanor's embrace and shifting instantly into a bright, overjoyed expression.
She naturally reached out for his arm, her voice practically dripping with devotion.
