In the reception room, Eliza sat in her chair like a walking corpse, the sharp complaints from Eleanor and Miriam's ungraceful screaming ringing in her ears.
She kept her head down, pressing a hand to her stomach, fighting back a suffocating wave of nausea.
She could barely register a single word they were saying.
She only wanted this ridiculous nightmare to end as quickly as possible.
Suddenly, the door to the reception room swung open.
The once noisy room fell silent.
Julian had returned, striding confidently inside with two freshly signed bail documents in his hand.
His gaze bypassed everyone in the room and landed squarely on Eliza.
When she caught his eye, she immediately dropped her head, desperately wanting to hide from him.
He knew she was incredibly proud and hated being seen in such a vulnerable, embarrassing state.
He understood all her hesitation and humiliation.
He also knew she probably didn't want to see him right now.
But he simply wanted to be there for her when she was helpless.
"Ms. Shaw, Mrs. Shaw, your bail paperwork is complete. You are free to go," the police officer behind him said politely.
The moment the words left his mouth, chaos erupted.
Eleanor sprang to her feet, pointing an accusing finger at Miriam and screaming.
"Why are you letting them go?"
"Officer, she assaulted a pregnant woman! I'm going to sue them. I'll make sure they rot in prison!"
Julian turned slightly, shooting an icy, predatory glare at Eleanor.
"Be my guest," the man's voice was low and elegant.
"The legal team at The Lawrence Group is ready to receive Mrs. Roth's lawsuit at any time. That is, if the Roth family has the money to burn."
"The... The Lawrence Group?"
Eleanor stared at Julian in absolute disbelief.
