Professor Vance gave a heavy harrumph. He snatched his reading glasses off his nose, tossed them onto the coffee table, and clasped his hands behind his back. "Worried? I say she had it coming! She can't even take care of herself, yet she runs off to play hero for someone else's kid. And of all people, Xander Harrison's child! Do you even know what kind of man Xander Harrison is?"
He paced the living room, his agitation growing with every step, his voice rising sharply. "A man as guarded as him, wielding absolute power in the business world! Do you have any idea what happens to the endless stream of women who try to get close to him? Vanished without a trace, as if they were completely erased from the face of the earth.
And you still dare to waltz around in front of him? Let me make this clear: you are to cut all ties with him immediately. I forbid you from trying to catch his attention again."
Nora frowned, standing perfectly still in the entryway. "Professor Vance, I wasn't trying to catch his attention. I was there because..."
Professor Vance glared at her, completely cutting her off. "I don't care what the reason is!"
Zelda walked over to the sofa and sat down, remaining silent for a moment.
Normally, she always took her students' side and urged her husband not to be so rigid, but this time, she didn't defend Nora.
She looked up at her, her tone far more serious than usual. "Nora, I won't say much else, but your Professor is right about this. Xander Harrison is an incredibly dangerous and calculating man. His world is not something we should touch. If you cross him, none of us can predict the consequences, nor could we bear them. Just to be safe, it's best you keep your distance from him from now on."
Nora stood in the middle of the living room. Her mentor, his wife, and Felix were all staring at her, leaving absolutely zero room for negotiation.
She opened her mouth to argue—to say that Xander wasn't the monster they thought he was. That he had guarded her hospital bed all day, bought her food, and even given her those exclusive VIP tickets.
But the words died on her tongue. She knew that saying any of that would only make Zelda worry even more.
He knew that while she agreed out loud, she hadn't truly let it go in her heart.
Distancing herself from Xander was one thing, but completely erasing Bonnie from her heart? That wouldn't be nearly as easy.
Seeing the tension hanging in the air, Zelda quickly stood up to lighten the mood. "Felix, hurry up and help Nora to her room so she can rest. I'll head to the kitchen right now and make her favorite hearty stew."
Nora smiled helplessly. "Zelda, I just got a few stitches. It's not like I've broken any bones."
Zelda waved her off. "It's the same thing. You still need proper recovery."
